Family Peer Support Specialist

Position Summary:
Assist families in effectively navigating the mental healthcare system in order to create their own support system of effective resources based on staff member’s personal experience. Serve as a resource, mentor and advocate for the needs of parents/guardians and their families.
Position Description:
Monitor, support and assess family’s progress in obtaining needed resources through continued one-on-one meetingsInitiate and help maintain collaboration between families and school system and community-based providers; attend corresponding meetings and events as needed, including those with school teachers, staff and/or administrationEffectively communicate key information in a timely manner with management and peer staffMaintain all service documentation requirements, evaluation outcome requirements and data as requiredAttend and actively participate in program team meetings; remain abreast of program needsPlan, organize and recruit for Round Table discussions, Family Fun Nights and other eventsAdhere to professional behaviorComplete agency, accrediting body, and funder required trainingOther duties as assignedRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of school system and community-area resources for youth and familiesAbility to manage time and multiple priorities effectivelyDemonstrated organizational skillsAbility to handle sensitive information appropriately and maintain professional boundariesBeginner level problem-solving skillsAbility to work effectively with individuals of a diverse backgroundAbility to be adaptive, flexible and responsive to the needs of the program while interacting in an ethical and culturally sensitive wayAbility to utilize technology including electronic service documentation systemJob Requirements:
High School Diploma or High School EquivalencyExperience as a primary care provider (parent, foster parent, guardian, etc.) navigating the behavioral health system for childrenValid driver license and auto insuranceEssential Functions/Physical Demands:
Positional: Driving in accordance with job duties assigned. Frequent to occasional walking and use of stairs. Frequent to constant sitting.Gross Mobility: Rare climbing, or crawling. Infrequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Occasional to frequent reaching and handling.Sensory: Rare feeling, tasting/smelling and use of color vision. Occasional use of midrange and far visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision.
