Education and Work Experience:

Must have or obtain a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must have a valid Oregon driver’s license.

Scope of Position: Under La Grande Service Center supervision participate in helping ensure all donations and food bank items are picked up and delivered successfully. Using Salvation Army box truck transport and pick up load and unload donations as required.  Will work with the Service Center Coordinator as event support for seasonal and fundraising projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of local roadways and traffic laws in the delivery area. Ability to operate and maintain the box truck. Strong time management and punctuality. Good customer service and communication skills. Attention to detail and safety consciousness. Problem-solving skills to address delivery challenges on the road.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan daily route based on pick-ups assigned. Insure care, security and safe handling of all donated goods and materials. Pick-ups are to be conducted efficiently, courteously and safely. Assist in monthly delivery of USDA commodities from Community Connections. Assist in seasonal activities or fund-raiser as directed by supervisor. Responsible for the safety and security of the truck and equipment, including securing the hand-truck at the end of the day. Complete Box Truck Inspection Report daily and report maintenance and safety conditions. Promptly report to immediate supervisor all accidents involving box truck, personal injury, or property damage. Act as a representative of The Salvation Army and ensure that all customers and donors are treated courteously. Immediately report all problems that occur during donation pick-ups to supervisor. Must maintain a neat appearance. Responsible for loading and unloading of assigned truck. Attending Safety meetings and completing safety training. Each box truck is to proceed to its assigned route by the shortest most direct route. No driver is ever permitted to make unauthorized stops. Sort donated goods efficiently and properly according to policy. Keep the immediate working are neat and clean and help in overall clean up as assigned. As needed ensure all food is rotated in the Food Bank. All other duties and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time, by Eastern Oregon Field & Services Center Director or the designated representatives.

Driving

Responsible for regular food donations and pickups. Responsible for collaborating with driver help (helper) when assigned.

Equipment used:

Business Phone System Personal Computer and Workstation All-in-One Printer/Copier/ Fax Machine Hand Trucks, Handheld pallet jacks and ladders Motor Vehicle (Box Truck)

Physical Requirements:

 Sit, walk reach, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on intermittent or continuous basis. Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, food boxes, donations, and ext. Have sense of touch, hear, identify colors have close vision, speak, and read, also will include wearing plastic or rubber gloves, working with household cleaners, exposure to inside and outside temperate variations, exposure to dust and molds. Lift 30lbs-50lbs Lifting should be attempted safely using appropriate equipment and in accordance with recommended procedure.

Working Conditions:

Regular and punctual attendance.

This position requires that you work in an environment with frequent interruptions, multiple deadlines, and competing priorities. While in this position you may encounter situations involving frustration, antagonism, anxiety, and deadlines. The work involves a high degree of independence.

A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required. Will require criminal history information check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.
