Family Support Specialist

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides approved transportation to clients when requested in service plan (drives
personal vehicle 90% of the time)
• Transports children to various appointments and locations
• Attends and participates in weekly and monthly meetings with staff and training sessions
as required by the specific job or department
• Observes and submits accurate written documentation on the service provided and the functioning of individuals and families as required by specific job or department
• Serves as a liaison with collaterals such as DCF, schools, etc.
• Shadows an experienced transporter
• Submits expense vouchers, renewed driver’s license, and automobile insurance coverage on due date
• Works cooperatively with other agencies, caseworkers, transporters, family aid specialists and family support services
• Works in collaboration with Office Assistant and fellow Family Support Specialist to ensure the needs of the agency and clients are met for transportation; coordinates with assigned supervisor, client and caregivers to facilitate the transport
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
Education: High School diploma/GED
Experience: Zero to Two years’ experience with transportation; One to Two years in a childcare field
Certification: None
Other: Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
with OHU required levels of coverage for auto insurance; geographic knowledge of the area.

Required Skills
1. Basic computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment
2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
3. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
4. Ability to write routine reports and verbally communicate in a clear manner
5. Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals 

6. Positive attitude concerning all aspects of working in a challenging environment (including significant patience and respect for children and families who can become
quite angry and demanding), sensitivity to cultural needs, and ability to serve as a positive member of a working team.
7. Ability to exercise discretion and ensure confidentiality

Physical Demands & Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if need; and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and office equipment, including, but not limited to, the telephone, computer, and copier. The employee is occasionally required to move items up to 50 pounds.

The employee works in varied residential environments based on assigned caseload and may encounter unpredictable clients. While performing the duties of this position, the employee travels by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions. The employee must be able to enter and exit a vehicle or a building without assistance. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently drive an automobile, taking clients to appointments, in the local and regional area. Occasionally, travel is outside the local area and overnight.
