Overview:
Motivated and excelling rising MS2 students are invited to submit an application to be considered for a Peer Academic Leaders (PAL) position. PALs will provide academic support and guidance to fellow enrolled FCOM medical students and assist with the development and implementation of supplemental academic programming to enhance student learning and success relevant to the FCOM curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide academic assistance to learners in the subject matter, study skills, organizational skills, and time management. Facilitate learning of course material: integrate “how to learn” with “what to learn” for both MS1s and MS2s
Plan and provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions to fellow medical students (by appointment, during review sessions, and during walk-in hours in the Learning Lounge).
Assist with the development and implementation of academic programming, including workshops, study groups, and peer-led review sessions.
Discuss any learner concerns with Student Success Team.
Attend and actively participate in professional development sessions designed to improve teaching, tutoring skills, and peer support including effective communication and collaborative learning techniques.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all medical students by providing support and guidance that is sensitive to cultural and individual differences.
Maintain and demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, reliability, responsibility, and excellent interpersonal communications skills in all interactions with fellow medical students, faculty, and academic staff.
Maintain documentation and submit required paperwork including contact/feedback logs, and timecards to Student Success Programs by due dates assigned.
Engage in the evaluation of the Peer Academic Leader Program, including the self-evaluation process.
Maintain the confidentiality of all students engaging with the PALs program. PALs much adhere to all FERPA guidelines to ensure privacy and protect student data.
