Position Availability: Student Health Services’ Wellness and Health Promotion (SHS/WHP) is seeking a Sex Education (Sex-E) Health Promotion Specialist who will support health and wellness projects and initiatives for students at The New School around issues of sexual health and consent. The candidate must be a New School student with Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their financial aid packet for the academic year 2024-2025. Position Title: Federal Work Study Student Assistant Specialist (Sex Education Health Promotion Specialist) Requisition Number: 0406073467 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: Stdnt Srvcs/Enrollment Ops Responsibilities: Specific duties and responsibilities include: Work independently and as part of a team to coordinate, implement and evaluate sex-positive sex education curriculum, including existing Sex-E Collective training materials. Provide Sex-E workshops in residence halls and classroom guest lectures, often in the evenings or on weekends. Build partnerships with Resident Advisors (RAs) and other student leaders to infuse sex positivity into other New School spaces. Identify and reach out to courses or clubs with overlapping content to build partnerships and strategize how to spread Sex-E’s reach. Create alternative and engaging ways for The New School’s community to understand and engage with Sex Positivity. This could include other arenas for dialogue, workshops, film screenings, etc.

Plan and lead awareness days/weeks/months with outreach, tabling and in other creative ways. This includes intimate partner violence awareness and sexual assault awareness. Facilitate group dialogue with informed, intentional language while challenging oppressive norms, naming shame and stigma when it arises, and engaging quiet people to share their voices. Coordinate with SHS staff and other administrative elements of the University to address student concerns and evaluate ways to promote equality and justice on campus. Provide content for and help promote our social media. Liaise with students as a student ambassador of SHS. Attend occasional meetings on and off campus, including peer health advocacy trainings. Train as a Peer Health Advocate (PHA). There is a mandatory PHA training retreat during the Spring 2025 semester. Commit to approximately 2 hours/week of administrative office duties and perform other assignments as needed that support Student Health Services.
Hybrid/Split -This position requires a regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus and also works some of the time remotely. This will be coordinated with the supervisor.This position requires both work on site at Student Health Services or at other locations on the university campus and independent work that can be done remotely. The final schedule will be determined with the supervisor and could be variable week by week, depending on the programs and services being offered.

Hourly Rate: $20$21 Minimum Qualifications: You must have strong commitments to student health, sex and body positivity, consent, anti-oppression frameworks and social justice and be able to articulate these clearly. We seek candidates with a strong work ethic, the ability to take initiative, work independently, communicate clearly and meet deadlines. You must be organized and able to interact with students, staff, and faculty of diverse backgrounds. Familiarity with Google docs and social media platforms. Work on site at Student Health Services, which is a requirement of this position, requires use of a surgical grade mask at all times. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in health promotion, sexual health initiatives, sexual violence prevention, and previous experience in coordinating and presenting workshops.
