FEMA 1206 Floodplain Mitigation & Planning - Florida

Position Summary: + Job Title: FEMA 1206 Floodplain Mitigation & Planning + Full Time or Part Time: FT + Temporary/Seasonal/Regular: Temporary + Compensation: $45-55/hour + Travel/Location: Onsite at Florida locations + Benefits Summary: Temporary positions are not benefits eligible, except where required by law. Mission of Role/Position Summary: Highly skilled and experienced FEMA 1206 Specialist will play a critical role in evaluating construction and development projects in floodplain areas. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with FEMA Section 1206, which focuses on flood hazard area regulations. This includes assessing project plans, coordinating with various stakeholders, and providing expert guidance on mitigating flood risks in both new developments and existing structures. Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions: + Provide expert advice on best practices for flood risk mitigation in alignment with federal, state, and local regulations and consult with community to ensure floodplain management activities support the goals and objectives for disaster recovery. + Help communities identify solutions to post-disaster compliance issues as it relates to floodplain management, respective loss, and substantial damage. + Analyze and interpret data related to Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM), Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) data, and other metrics to identify specific issues in affected communities. + Stay updated on changes to floodplain management standards and building codes and assist the community in developing and implementing flood risk management maps, plans, policies, and strategies. + Collaborate with floodplain management staff at the local, state, and federal level on behalf of the community to ensure projects meet compliance standards related to flood hazards. + Review and evaluate construction plans for compliance with applicable floodplain requirements and, as necessary, conduct site inspections to assess floodplain risk and ensure that all structures are designed to withstand potential flooding. + Prepare reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies. + Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: May have lead responsibilities within projects or small teams depending on function with senior level support. Expected Hours of Work: Schedule may vary. Work on evenings and weekends may be required. Dependability and punctuality are paramount. Travel Requirements: + Up to 50% travel is expected for this position. + Must be willing to travel and deploy to client sites for extended periods of time. Physical Demands: + Mobility required on-site with clients. + Sitting or standing for hours at a time. + Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed. + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repetitively throughout the day and as needed. Working Environment: + Emergency management consultants may work in an office or home environment or be deployed to the field which may require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions. + Work may be on-site with clients ex: EOC, hospital, debris sites or local government buildings. + All AC Disaster Consulting (ACDC) positions are remote work site positions with the home location agreed upon at time of hire. + If the remote work site locations change, ACDC Human Resources must be made aware, and leadership needs to approve any site changes for business registration and payroll tax purposes. Requirements Experience/Education Required: + Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental science, urban planning, or a related field. + In-depth knowledge of Section 1206 of the building code, FEMA guidelines, and other relevant floodplain management regulations. + 3-5 years of experience in floodplain management, building code compliance, or related fields. + Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) certification is preferred. + Strong understanding of hydrology, drainage systems, and flood risk assessment methodologies. + Involvement in post-disaster recovery planning + Advanced to subject matter expert level knowledge and/or experience in one Emergency Management Disciplines. + Experience managing projects or complex portions of projects. + Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel. Experience/Education Preferred: + Proficient with Salesforce. + Applicable Certifications: + Florida building official licensing + Certified Emergency Manager (CEM). + Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. + American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification. Additional Qualifications: + Must be 18 years of age or older. + Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsored visa is required. We are not able to employ those located outside of the US. + Must pass company and any applicable client background check and reference check upon offer of employment.
