This is administrative and supervisory work in managing shore operations at a large or high-volume N.C. Department of Transportation Ferry Terminal. Employees direct all vessel and shore personnel as well as oversee shore support facilities including building , marine, and vessel maintenance, equipment, and supplies. Employees analyze and recommend operating budgets. Employees plan and schedule crew complements for vessel operations and manage overtime work for seven-day week operations that vary seasonally according to traffic volumes. Employees also direct and oversee the enforcement of safety standards implemented by OSHA, US Coast Guard, Federal Communications Commission, and other State and Federal enforcement agencies. Employees ensure that vessels are staffed with U.S. Coast Guard certified crewmembers. This position works out of theHatteras Ferry Operations and works shift work – 7 days on/7 days off. Dormitory housing may be available for the duration of the work shift. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: + Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of ferry vessels. + Demonstrated ability to ensure NCDOT Ferry Division polices are communicated, applied, and enforced. (i.e. safety, accounting, operational, regulatory, and administrative) + Experience in planning, organizing, delegating, creating schedules, and budgets. + Experience scheduling and communicating with and dispatch ferry crews, work crews, equipment or equipment vehicles to appropriate locations according to specifications or safety needs. + Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable USCG rules and regulations that directly impact ferry operations. Special Requirements: Position will be required to obtain a U.S. Coast Guard Ordinary Seaman Merchant Mariner Credential within 90 days of hire.
