Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
**Scope of Position:**
Perform a variety of technical duties and activities supporting Fibermaking Engineering, including experimental procedures, collection of data from manufacturing process, data analysis, and graphical analysis. Support and lead projects related to cost reduction, performance improvement, and new technology deployment. May be involved with external customer and vendors. Position is within the Corning Optical Fiber and Cable (OFC) Division Engineering.
**Required Qualifications:**
• 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience
• 2-5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment
• Ability to use scientific method, experimental design, and engineering principles to solve problems effectively.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel
**Desired Qualifications:**
• Experience with Microsoft Access and statistical packages such as Minitab, JMP
• Experience with PI process books
• Ability to work within a team and provide training to others. Works well with different functional areas (development, engineering, manufacturing, trades).
**Key Responsibilities:**
• Understand equipment used in key process areas and interpret data to solve problems.
• Troubleshoot process and equipment issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
• Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions and lead/participate in implementing solutions at worldwide manufacturing plants.
• Provide technical expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues.
• Assist in testing and integration of production equipment and provide leadership and support for startup of new equipment lines.
• Work with technology in innovating new processes and/or equipment that support increased capacity, improved product and process capability and reduced cost.
• Actively participate in plant safety initiatives and projects.
• Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.
• Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes.
**Travel Requirements:**
• Up to 20% domestic and international
**Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:**
• 8-10 hours/day; 40-50 hours/week.

The range for this position is $55,599.00 - $76,449.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
