Tetra Tech is committed to hiring top talent and helping them thrive professionally. We are currently seeking Field Archaeologists for upcoming projects in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in archaeological fieldwork, particularly in the Columbia Plateau and/or other parts of the Pacific Northwest. Opportunities for work in other states and regions as well. The role involves traveling to project sites throughout the Pacific Northwest, primarily for renewable energy-related projects.
Pay rate will range between $23 - $29 per hour and will be based on individual qualifications, experience, and assigned project role.
Your Role:
· Perform pedestrian surveys, shovel probing, and NRHP-eligibility testing.
· Assist with mapping cultural resources, collecting GPS data using ESRI products or Trimble units, digital photography, and identifying and recording artifacts and resources on site record forms and tablets.
· Work closely with colleagues, take direction from supervisors, and coordinate with project staff.
· Contribute to the completion of site forms under the supervision of Field Directors and/or Principal Investigators.
· Operate GPS units, tablets, and other field equipment. Utilize software like ArcGIS, TerraSync, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Qualifications:
· A Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology or a closely related field.
· Completion of an archaeology field school.
· At least 1 year of experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM).
· Experience with large-scale cultural resource projects.
· Familiarity with field methodologies including survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring in the Pacific Northwest.
· Experience with GPS (Bluetooth with tablets), tablets, ESRI products.
· Strong writing skills for completing cultural resource forms in the field.
· Attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work in a team environment.
· Experience identifying a variety of pre-contact and historic-era artifacts, flora, fauna, and human remains.
· Ability to safely operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads.
· First Aid/CPR training preferred.
· A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.
· Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to conduct fieldwork, carrying gear (35 lbs.+) for long hours, up to 10 miles per day, sometimes in inclement weather and rugged terrain.
· Ability to perform manual labor including excavation with shovels.
· Willingness to work extended field rotations (sometimes 10-12 days at a time).
Work Environment:
· The role involves outdoor work, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrains and in a wide range of weather conditions.
· Physical activities such as bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 35 lbs. are required.
