Field Career Services Coordinator

Position Summary
The Career Services Network serves students of all majors and levels across Michigan State University. Specifically, this role will advance student success through developing relationships with campus partners, student organizations and employers, to create and deliver programming and advising designed to advance career exploration and professional development.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
+ Increase engagement of specialized student populations with Career Services through intentional collaboration with student organizations and a variety of campus units to coordinate participation in collaborative projects with these units
+ Create and deliver programming designed to enhance student career exploration and advance professional development in alignment with NACE Career Readiness Competencies
+ Develop and implement annual action plan and goals for addressing key issues and supporting student and employer success as it relates to MSU Strategic Plan; track and manage action plan, timelines, and deliverables
+ Serve as a point of contact for employers and provide consultation and support for developing successful engagement strategies and activities for recruiting and hiring specialized populations
+ Assist Employer Relations Team with employer programs including specialized career fairs, informational sessions, panels and educational workshops
+ Provide career advising on-site and virtually to students and recent alumni (within 2 years of graduation) from all majors focused on career planning, graduate school preparation and job search strategies
+ In partnership with employers, create and deliver professional development workshops and programming to student organizations to support career development and exploration
+ Prepare written communications, reports, and multi-media materials for distribution to constituents and stakeholders; contribute to Career Services Network annual report and other publications
+ Partner with career services colleagues across campus to plan and deliver professional development programs, skills workshops, and events
+ Participate in fundraising and partnership development meetings as requested and support the development of proposals for donors and partners
+ Serve as a key member of the Unpaid Internship Award Committee
+ Provide reporting on student and employer engagement
+ Assist with social media marketing and online resource development to promote relevant career development activities
+ Attend, present, and represent Career Services Network at professional conferences and serve on relevant external groups and committees as deemed appropriate by Network leadership
Communications/Interpersonal Relationships Interacts with:
+ Students – in order to seek opportunities for collaboration and partnerships with registered student organizations and to deliver presentations and programming and career advising
+ Faculty/Staff/Administrators – in order to exchange information and coordinate employer involvement in practical applications of applied learning
+ Employers/Alumni – in order to secure internship and job opportunities, market students and degree programs, and to provide consultation on effective recruiting strategies and labor market trends
+ Co-Workers – in order to collaborate in planning meetings, programs and events and in developing, implementing and evaluating goals and objectives in a team environment
+ Career Services Network leadership team – in order to receive guidance and direction for work activities, exchange information, and help define and execute strategy
Responsibility for the Work of Others:
May provide first-level supervision over regular employees and second-level supervision over student employees.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a Master's degree, and one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience to the college labor market, developing college student success, and recruiting trends specific to specialized populations for entry-level talent or knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a Bachelor’s degree, and three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience work experience related to the college labor market, developing college student success, and recruiting trends specific to specialized populations for entry-level talent; public speaking; writing and editing for mass distribution; use of internet, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Preference given to individuals who have strong relationship management, project management, problem-solving, communications and teamwork skills; previous experience or knowledge working within human resources, career services, or employer relations roles; experience working directly with specialized student populations at the university level in a career advising role or other career-related setting; experience working with employers; ability to be flexible, learn quickly, desire and ability to build collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders including students, employers, alumni, and MSU faculty and staff.
