Field Civil Engineer

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Field Civil Engineer to join our renewables transportation team in our Denver or Minneapolis office. As a Field Civil Engineer, the individual will support the development of solar, wind projects, and energy storage projects during design and construction phases. This individual will assist lead engineers with data collection in the field and transforming that data into reports and studies to support project development. The Field Civil Engineer will perform a variety of tasks including existing infrastructure inventories, construction observation and reporting, documenting locations of utilities, route feasibility reviews, and reporting on data collected in the field.

Individuals that excel in this role are passionate about their work, have an acute attention to detail, enjoy complex problem solving, and enjoy interacting and learning from others. Working under the direction of Westwood’s professional engineering staff you will gain valuable engineering experience that counts towards their professional engineering (PE) licensure. In addition, the position offers an opportunity for higher compensation and increased access to travel when compared to Westwood’s office-based engineering roles. Duties and Responsibilities Anticipated travel 50-75%Complete field work associated with tasks identified in the job summaryObserve and report on environmental issues on construction projects, work with project managers to identify solutions.Support report preparation of data collected in the field.Collaborate with engineering and construction personnel to develop and implement innovative and effective solutionsCommunicate directly with clients, engineers, contractors, and third parties involved in Westwood’s projectsWork closely with construction teams to ensure that work has been completed or is completed in accordance with engineering details, specifications, and permitsReview construction documents and conditions in the field for conformance with engineering specifications and discuss discrepancies with the project teamUtilize iPads to collect data via a cloud-based data collection platformSupport data processing and reporting associated with project field workUtilize advanced GPS equipment to locate and map objects and utilities in the fieldPerform periodic inspection of equipment and components and review contractor or manufacture inspection documentationPotential to pivot to an office based civil design role following the completion of construction projects Required Experience (Text Only) - Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Construction Management- Strong background in leading and promoting safe work environments
- 2 –4 years of experience with wind and solar construction and/or engineering is preferred, but not required.
- Valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong aptitude in the use of technology
- Positive and professional attitude with the ability to solve complex challenges as they arise
- An interest and/or passion for energy related infrastructure, wind and solar generation
- Willingness to work onsite in variable weather conditions for extended durations. Projects may be anywhere within the US and onsite durations extend through the entirety of the project.
