**Overview**
The Field Director is one of the lead roles in managing and developing International surveyors for the provision of accreditation surveys and education to International healthcare organizations. Provides direction and leadership to new as well as experienced surveyors through direct day-to-day management, coaching and mentorship. Guides the performance and the professional development of these surveyors, and in doing so, assists in leading the quality, delivery and overall growth of international accreditation.
Responsible for the evaluation of surveyor performance as it relates to the entire client experience, the implementation of survey processes and interpretation of standards by the surveyors.
Maintains active/current knowledge of health care- and discipline-specific trends and content, established solutions for the improvement of patient care, and all relevant JCIA subject matter, and methodologies.
**Responsibilities**
**PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Provides day-to-day coaching and mentoring to support surveyors as they carry out required activities and responsibilities before, during, and after the survey.
+ Assists in the development of core competencies and job responsibilities for preceptors, surveyors, and team leaders.
+ Assists in training preceptors.
+ Manages new surveyors through first annual performance evaluation and development plan at the end of “probation period” (includes: preceptorship, plus three additional independent surveys).
+ Provides mentoring for new surveyors starting with their preceptorships through the first annual performance appraisal.
+ Completes the first annual performance for all assigned new surveyors.
1. In conjunction with Director, at least annually evaluates field representatives’ performance against the core competencies. This includes surveyors as well as team leaders.
1. Assesses ongoing performance of assigned surveyors through direct observation, surveyor data reports, management reports, client satisfaction data, peer evaluation data, and other written feedback about surveyors.
1. Actively works with each surveyor to develop and implement an individualized professional development plan for continuous improvement based on assessments and feedback.
1. Sets goals and objectives for assigned surveyors who are placed on a performance plan and monitors progress on the plan. Provides feedback to Director for further action when the individual does not meet the performance plan.
1. Participates in planning of educational activities relevant to surveyor learning needs, knowledge deficits, in response to feedback and key enterprise initiatives.
+ Helps develop a core education curriculum for new to experienced surveyors.
+ Acts as subject matter expert when appropriate.
+ Develops content in conjunction with Production Coordinator and Instructional Designer.
+ Acts as faculty, when appropriate, for various educational activities.
1. Identifies areas of variability among surveyors and team leaders and works with appropriate members of the international staff to develop tools, job aids, and other resources to help reduce variability.
1. As relevant, works with the Director and other stakeholders to assist in the development and implementation of the JCIA strategic and operational plans.
1. Participates in the development and implementation of education and surveyor related policies and procedures.
+ Works with the Compliance Officer and surveyors to ensure firewall, HIPAA and Conflict of Interest Policies are enforced.
1. Acts as role model; modeling appropriate behavior when interacting with clients, surveyors and central office staff. Promotes cooperation, flexibility, and teamwork among supervised staff
1. Actively participates in professional development activities and relevant education programs to stay abreast of current JCIA policies, standards, and survey processes, as well as surveyor skills as appropriate.
1. Participates in resource projection activities to ensure that a sufficient number of surveyors are available, competent and have the necessary skills and resources to perform their responsibilities in a manner that meets job performance requirements. Identifies and interviews potential surveyor candidates.
1. Provides input and feedback into standards development process and development of survey process guide.
**Qualifications**
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED**
1. At least five (5) years of experience managing others, with distinctive strength in developing individuals. Two to five years of progressively responsible management experience in healthcare or business setting, including management of professional staff.
1. Previous experience in operational leadership.
1. Previous experience related to professional development, talent management, training/education, or other relevant programs in professional services strongly preferred.
1. Passion for people development and strong people orientation.
1. Master’s or other advanced degree in healthcare, business administration, organization and talent, or other relevant field.
1. If a health care professional requiring licensure or certification, keeps license/certification current.
1. Strong working knowledge of healthcare industry.
1. Distinctive problem-solving skills.
1. Strong interpersonal communication and team collaboration skills, strong team orientation.
1. Demonstrated skill in handling difficult situations and managing difficult conversations.
1. Well-organized with strong project management skills.
1. Ability to connect as a trusted peer with JCIA leadership.
1. Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% and to adapt to varying situations and cultures.
