Field Engineer II - Telemetry

JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.

JOB SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

Performs a variety of fundamental field engineering tasks under general supervision of a senior level engineer, involved in the installation, operations, testing and maintenance of electronic equipment and systems.

Conducts research and reference reading to assist higher-level engineers in obtaining technical information and keeps informed of currently approved standards, codes, and procedures applied to engineering specialty. Performs engineering or other highly technical tasks that are varied and may be somewhat difficult in character. Plans and carries out successive engineering steps and resolves technical problems by standard practices and techniques, such as tolerance studies and design calculations. Supports projects with limited scope or parts of more complex projects with detailed instructions on the intent and scope of the documents to be prepared. Generate sections of design specifications of more complex projects or complete specifications of less complex projects. Using computer-assisted test methods, conducts laboratory investigations on equipment or systems. Assists in preparation of reports, correspondence or technical studies. Studies currently approved standards, codes, and procedures applied to the engineering specialty. Prepare, deliver and submit technical presentations for in-process design and review meetings. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION

The applicant is expected to possess a comprehensive understanding of Telemetry systems with the ability to comprehend signal flow within a given system. Job responsibilities encompass Telemetry operations, data transport systems, and network systems with adherence to technical standards. This includes promptly addressing real-time mission anomalies and effectively troubleshooting emergent issues. Moreover, the candidate must demonstrate familiarity with local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), coupled with a profound knowledge of the transport and networking equipment integral to data transport. Proficiency in structured cabling in support of data transmission equipment, such as fiber optics, twisted pair, and low loss RF cables with a knowledge of termination techniques is desired. It is necessary that they understand how to use equipment such as RF spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, telemetry receivers, video distribution amplifiers, etc. A candidate with a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of Silent Sentinel antenna systems, RFoF, TMoIP, and expertise in installing and testing telemetry systems, GPS timing, and video solutions would be advantageous.

The candidate is expected to interface effectively with the drafting department to create engineering drawings, proficiency with drafting software such as Visio is a plus. Must be able to understand, interpret, redline engineering drawings, be able to utilize schematics to install, alter and repair equipment. The candidate will need to interface with engineering to make system proposals, evaluations, install, test and implement the use of new equipment. Perform quality assurance on telemetry systems as well as validation/verification of electronic systems. Produce operations, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting procedures for existing or new telemetry systems.

The candidate must be able to work independently and as an integral part of a team, capable of making decisions under pressure. Routine preventative maintenance of all equipment, by established procedures (Local Work Cards), operating protocols, technical manuals, and other authoritative documentation is a fundamental responsibility. Furthermore, the candidate shall be responsible for generating local trouble tickets and employing Maximo to track work performed per established procedures.

Effective communication with customers, involving email correspondence, phone interactions, and face-to-face meetings, is imperative. Supervision of technicians and the provision of regular status reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis are integral components of the role.

The applicant must obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance, extending up to and including the Secret level, with special access privileges.

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Associates degree in engineering or other technical discipline or formal academic/vocational/military training and a minimum of 7 or more years of technical/professional experience in the specialty field. Must have a professional knowledge of applicable engineering concepts and principles, and a familiarity with related engineering fields. Must have a practical knowledge of test methods and practices sufficient to perform routine to more complex engineering procedures and to prepare or make minor modifications of standard test procedures or test equipment work instructions. Incumbent must have a valid, current state driver's license. Must qualify for and maintain a Security Clearance with special access. U.S. Citizenship is required.

SALARY

The expected salary range for this position is $67,392 to $89,440 annually.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting and use of a computer terminal; constant use of sight abilities while writing, reviewing, and editing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication; and constant mental alertness are required.

Routine travel to remote company work locations and work in field environment with occasional overnight assignment may be required.
