Job DescriptionJob Summary
AECOM is seeking a Field Management Superintendent to be based at Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California. The ideal candidate will be motivated, resourceful, results-oriented, and decisive. This is a field position that requires working outside, in inclement weather at times, walking in rugged terrain and at times lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. The Superintendent must possess their own personal vehicle for travel to and from the job site offices.
The Field Management Superintendent will perform a variety of tasks in support of project staff. In this role, the individual will provide on-site administrative and technical management for a wide range of projects. The individual will be responsible for the organization and direction of remedial system operation and maintenance (O&M), environmental and compliance sampling, and other related activities. As the field superintendent, the individual may be the primary client contact for all jobsite day to day activities and may coordinate with client’s resident representatives on jobsite permitting and activities. Responsibilities will include coordination and oversight of environmental technicians and subcontractors to ensure assigned jobsite operations are completed on schedule, stay within budget, and comply with design/specifications and quality standards. The Field Superintendent will also periodically assist with fieldwork and equipment maintenance, in addition to prepare or assist with preparation of completion reports and quality control reports. The Field Superintendent will interface with all other field staff, field management staff, and particularly the Project Manager and senior staff in a coordinated effort.
The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to the following:
Report to the Field Services Team Leader and take direction from that individual, project managers, task leaders, and senior technical staff.Coordinate with task and project managers, and with on-site subcontractors and field staff, to support sampling, data collection, and field documentation.Perform sampling tasks (soil, sediment, soil vapor, and groundwater), and monitoring well gauging.Document efforts with detailed and legible field notes.Oversee and perform O&M of environmental remediation systems that include soil vapor extraction, in-situ bioremediation, and groundwater recirculation.Operate various field instrumentation and equipment.Oversee work and safety of contractors.Work independently and within large field teams.Maintain sample chain of custody and ship samples, as required.Collect and tabulate scientific data, recording data using digital data collection tools.Complete daily field reports and forms documenting sampling, monitoring, O&M, and construction management activities.Coordinate with the engineering task lead for specific construction activities necessary for on-site remediation.Travel (1-2 weeks at a time) throughout the western US for temporary assignments.QualificationsMinimum Requirements
BA/BS +4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated relevant equivalency of experience and/or educationDue to the nature of the work, U.S. citizenship is requiredMust possess a valid driver's licenseMust pass a background check and be able to gain access to an active military installationPreferred Qualifications
Excellent mechanical aptitude and background.Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification.OSHA 10- or 30-Hour Construction Training course.Understanding of California and federal hazardous waste regulationsExperience collecting groundwater and soil vapor samples using approved sampling plans and industry accepted methods.Self-motivated, able to follow through with challenging field and office assignments.Experience with pneumatic and electric submersible pumps, and basic operation and maintenance of electric control panels and conveyance piping systems.Able to operate various hand tools.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills; flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse project tasks; eagerness to acquire new skills and meet new challenges.Able to manage subcontractors and environmental technician staff.Able to work well in a project team and a fast-paced environment.Attention to detail on field notes and data quality.Excellent attention to health and safety.Experience working on active industrial, petroleum, and military facilities.Experience working with and maintaining groundwater and soil vapor extraction remediation systems.Additional InformationAbout AECOM
