JOB SUMMARY
\nUnder the direction of the HTM Manager, the Field Service Biomedical Equipment Technician is accountable for installations, repairs, regular maintenance and calibration of a specific modality of medical equipment at the component level. May offer guidance to Biomedical Equipment Tech I and II staff. May offer in-service and personal training for equipment users on subjects such as electrical safety, proper operation and care of the equipment. Will monitor the work of outside vendors to ensure quality standards are met.
\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
\n\nPerforms installations, regular maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on assigned medical equipment to ensure proper operation and function.\nPerforms all assignments in a competent and timely way according to current policies and procedures.\nMonitors service provided by outside vendors, and accountable for quality control of service provided.\nEstablishes equipment baselines, performs inspections and evaluations, interprets test results and makes recommendations to solve performance deficiencies.\nInstalls, fixes and calibrates most classes of medical equipment at a component level.\nPerforms planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections as assigned.\nUses diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced.\nHelps in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories and supplies.\nInspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturers\ninstructions.\nWorks with new hires and cross-trains on systems and equipment to ensure proper operation of equipment and techniques for testing, calibrating, operating and troubleshooting biomedical systems and equipment.\nEstablishes and maintains files of literature for each piece of medical equipment, such as the manufacturers technical literature, reference standards, specifications and other documents necessary to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including TJC.\nHelps in writing detailed purchase specifications for new equipment.\nAccurately and legibly accounts for productive time using the departments computerized maintenance management systems.\nHelps with the administrative record keeping responsibilities of the department, such as work orders, maintenance history records, PM and safety inspections, repairs, reports, and repair parts inventory; and any necessary reports to ensure accurate recording of activities for code and regulatory purposes.\nProcesses work requests and turns in completed work requests in a timely, results oriented and professional way.\nWith management approval uses the electronic system to order necessary parts, devices, etc. to properly repair or complete assigned work orders.\nUses department hardware and software to electronically process and complete work orders and PM assignments.\nDocuments time and expenses in a timely and accurate way.\nEnsures proper care of equipment and tools issued for maximum safety and productivity and adheres to all personal safety requirements.\nDiligently maintains all tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order.\nMay recommend new equipment or equipment upgrades and review possible new capital expenditures.\nMaintains adequate inventory of related parts to perform assigned duties.\nMaintains technical skills and required certifications to perform job duties.\nAdheres to all safety requirements and wears the proper Personal Protective Equipment required by the job.\nResponds to emergency situations to ensure employee, patient and facility safety.\nChampions overall safety in the department. Reports possible safety issues and recommends appropriate changes.\nComplies with OSHA, and other local, state, and federal regulations.\nDemonstrates a sound commitment to the philosophy and values of Baylor Scott and White Health.\nMaintains friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers. Responds professionally to customer needs.\nUnites and partners with the Baylor Scott & White leadership to uphold and meet the strategic goals of Baylor Scott & White Health.\nAdheres to BSWH and the Service Departments policies and procedures including appropriate attire and grooming.\nWorks to purposefully meet and exceed the performance improvement goals set by the department and or BSWH and all quality improvement targets.\nWilling to serve on departmental and/or BSWH committees or focus groups as requested and needed.\nMay be asked to give recommendations to healthcare management on biomedical equipment and serve as a member of committees on Risk Management, Environment of Care, Safety, or other appropriate groups.\nInteracts in a friendly effective way, builds relationships, and demonstrates a high level of cooperation and customer service.\nCommunicates effectively with the Clinical Engineering manager and other Biomedical Equipment Technicians on a regular, formal and informal, basis to discuss possible concerns or problems with the Clinical Engineering department and/or any medical equipment.\nPerforms other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous way.\nCoordinates and participates in special projects as assigned, such as new equipment acquisition purchase planning; development of bid specifications; review of vendor proposals; installation planning; acceptance testing; renovations; equipment upgrades; and equipment disposal.\nReviews the outcome of preventive maintenance actions and makes recommendations to management staff concerning the need to make changes to the PM schedule frequency, procedures and/or data documentation forms. Recommends and develops new equipment PM and incoming (acceptance) testing procedures.\nGive leadership and managerial oversight to team members as assigned.\nAttends routine and special meetings, such as Environment of Care, construction status, equipment pre-purchase evaluation and implementation.\nAbility to take part in on-call rotation.\nAccountable for the aptitude assessment and training Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMETs).\nMust have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record for the last 5 years\nMust be able to travel between all Baylor Scott and White facilities as assigned\nMust be able to stay overnight when traveling over 2 hours in any one direction, when deemed necessary by HTM management\nMust maintain the assigned Baylor Scott and White owned vehicle under BSWH policy\nMust make every effort to protect and secure the assigned BSWH vehicle and contents at all times\nMust comply with all state laws and parking regulations while operating the assigned BSWH vehicle\nMust accurately maintain a truck inventory of parts, tools and test equipment on a monthly basis\nMust take part in the on-call rotation for the specified specialty or HTM geography as assigned\nMust have a functioning smart phone, which BSWH will give a stipend for, to respond to all calls and work orders\nMust be able to cover small expenses due to travel, for which BSWH will reimburse based on BSWH policy for reimbursable expenses\n\nKEY SUCCESS FACTORS
\n\n6+ years’ experience in Bio Medical Engineering, healthcare preferred\nInternational Certification Commission certificate preferred\nMaintains a safe driving record\nSolid knowledge of computerized systems: recordkeeping, PM, work order systems, timekeeping, etc.\nAble to learn various departmental and BSWH software programs\nAble to complete and maintain any licensure or certification(s) required by the position.\nHave exceptional technical, mechanical, data-based and problem solving skills.\nPhysically able to reach, raise, work atop, move along the ground or see and work in tight and/or dim places.\nAble to interact and communicate with all staff and management in English in a positive and professional way.\nAble to communicate appropriately verbally and in writing using the English language.\nAble to comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos and other forms of verbal and written communication.\nAble to read and follow instructions.\nAble to deal with difficult situations, resolve issues and concerns in a professional way\nAble to work and accomplish tasks in a stressful, fast-paced environment.\n\nBENEFITS
