Job Title: Field Service Engineer
Job Description

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for reviewing and maintaining multiple sites within the Durham region. Your role involves ensuring the functionality and performance of critical safety networks. You will work closely with local police departments, perform site upgrades, and be part of the on-call rotation to address emergency situations. This position requires a mix of fieldwork and office-based tasks.

ResponsibilitiesReview 1 or 2 sites per day out of the 26 sites in Durham region.Visit sites to ensure there are no alarms being reported to the system.Perform general tasks to ensure site functionality.Communicate with Durham Police to offer assistance and ensure coordination.Set up equipment in the shop for upgrades or future proofing.Participate in major upgrades every 2 years as part of the implementation group.Rotate on-call duties with another team member, being available for emergencies.Resolve issues remotely through VPN when possible.Meet service contract requirements for resolution and on-site completion within specified time periods.Drive to sites for emergencies as required, ensuring critical safety networks are maintained.Work primarily in the field (75% or less), with site visits decreasing as the year progresses.Work from the Mississauga office or Durham Police headquarters when not on-site.Essential SkillsKnowledge of RF technology.Understanding of networking protocols (LAN, WAN).Ability to troubleshoot and understand Cisco scripts.Understanding of power amplifiers.Experience with Multi-meter, spectrum analyzer, volt meter, Windows, Linux, SQL, LAN, WAN, and Unix.Additional Skills & QualificationsFamiliarity with combiners, cabling, wiring, and test sets.Knowledge of key quality service indicators on microwave and transmission equipment, optical fibre, TCP/IP.Experience in testing and troubleshooting RF TX & RX modules.Knowledge of electronic test equipment for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance of LMR radio systems.Experience with server and client operating systems (Windows Server, UNIX/Linux, Windows 11/10/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1).OS Imaging and Deployment experience (SCCM, MDT, WDS, USMT, Ghost, Acronis).Virtualization experience (VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V).Database knowledge (MS SQL Server).Experience with configuring Cisco Switches/Routers, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, LAN, WAN, FTP, SFTP.Knowledge of enterprise anti-virus solutions (MS Endpoint Protection, Trend Micro, McAfee).Hardware experience with notebooks, desktop computers, and Wintel servers (Dell, IBM).Work Environment

You will work an 8am-4:30pm schedule, totaling 37.5 hours per week, with flexibility to work additional hours as required. The role involves working in police or 911 dispatch offices, where safety shoes are not needed, except when on radio sites. The company provides a service vehicle, basic hand tools, a laptop, and a cell phone. Standard PPE is supplied, including a safety shoe allowance of $180 CAD if required. Work locations include Durham County, with major sites in Ajax and Oshawa.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00
