Completes technical-oriented service tasks of various scopes and supports in planning and managing these tasks.The Field Service Engineer HW (FSE- Hardware) is the primary contact for Varian Medical Systems (VMS) customer service and repair needs ensuring that our customers’ equipment always operates efficiently.
Provides customer support through the performance of on-site installation of company product (s) and ancillary devices, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. Checks out and approves operational quality of system equipment. Instructs customers in the operation and maintenance of the system. Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.
Responsibilities
Performs client-site servicing, repair and/or installation of company product(s).
This job may include any aspect of product field support, including system hardware and software, medical or laboratory devices and equipment, and systems networking.
Provides technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects of system equipment. Serves as customer contact on technical and service-related problems.
Diagnoses mechanical, hardware, software and systems failures using established procedures. Determines most cost-effective repair/resolution to minimize customer downtime.
Prepares reports for analysis of product failure trends and service ability issues. Provides basic, routine, complex and advanced servicing, testing, and maintenance of Varian Medical Systems (VMS) equipment according to instructions and company guidelines to ensure that customers’ equipment operates efficiently.
Provide phone support/remote assistance to customers and to Field Service Representatives as required to achieve resolution of service need in a timely manner.
Order spare parts for assigned customers including replenishing spare parts kits for warranty and contract customers, to ensure they can operate their VMS equipment according to technical and safety guidelines with the highest level of satisfaction.
Input detailed records of service visits into company information systems, including technical problems, actions taken, and parts employed to correct these problems, to ensure accurate updated customer maintenance information is available to other VMS parties.
Maintain up-to-date technical documentation, in order to permanently keep informed regarding all operating characteristics, design factors, technical performance and developments of VMS products.
Maintain a high degree of professional knowledge and safety consciousness according to VMS guidelines in order to perform activities under the safest working conditions.
Assist in the development of new servicing techniques and the writing of service documentation. May provide training to other field personnel.
Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge:
Frequent use and application of technical documentation, standards, principles, concepts, and techniques in the field.
Uses acquired job skills and company policies to complete assigned tasks.
Sound knowledge of and professional experience with Network analysis test equipment.
Advanced knowledge of Desktop computer hardware and operating systems.
Basic knowledge of server hardware and operating systems.
Familiarity with Varian Record and Verify and treatment private network systems.
A thorough understanding of the separate responsibilities of Varian Service reps and the Customer Physicists with regard to Treatment Planning Systems.
Understanding and familiarity with Customer facing documentation.
Performs routine maintenance such including major STBs Capable of performing Maintenance Release upgrades with assistance or supervision.
Achieve certification status
Other Desired Skills and Knowledge:
Able to handle difficult customer situations including troubleshooting while customer is observing.
Is assigned as primary support for machine accounts
Be able to understand and utilize the escalation process to RISS FSR, Manager, NTS, PSE, applications
