Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Provide technical assistance to both internal and external customers, support field projects, training classes, corporate owned manufacturing facilities, Product Line Management, and Commercial Sales and Marketing.
Key Responsibilities Master optical test and splice equipment and procedures required to perform assigned tasks. Travel to customer sites to install, test, repair, and document fiber optic communication systems. Perform as a Project Leader with the responsibility for coordinating and executing all facets of a fiber optic network installation. Assist fiber optic training courses at various Corning locations, regional locations, and at customer sites. Provide on-site technical assistance and troubleshooting for various Corning customers at various locations. Complete on site investigations of potential product issues raised by customers. Conduct product evaluations on both Corning and competitor products. Actively pursue, obtain and report competitive information to Product Line Management, Manufacturing and Sales/Marketing. Provide recommendations to Sales, Manufacturing and Field Engineering to solve quality and/or field related problems. Coordinate project and support-related travel and logistical activities and plans as assigned. Experiences/Education - Required Associates degree in a STEM field preferred High school diploma or equivalent required Must be an effective communicator, able to deliver message through presentations, written, and verbal messages. Candidate should possess sound mechanical intuition and PC computer literacy. Demonstrated ability to manage tasks effectively in an actively changing environment. Results oriented with a high commitment level to task completion. Sound problem solving and decision-making processes and skills. Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of both internal and external customers. Work effectively as both an individual performer and a team player. Must be detailed oriented and conscientious. Experiences/Education - Desired 5 years technician-related experience desired Proactive, demonstrated ability to take the lead and influence the outcome. Eager to take on additional responsibilities outside normal scope of position. Ability to listen, make wise decisions and act with little direction. Ability to organize and coordinate work schedule and duties. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint and Visio. Technical writing ability, with emphasis on effective presentation of detailed concepts. Knowledge of construction and project planning procedures Some related work experience and/or military background in telecommunications. Prior supervisory / functional management experience – or – training. Fluent Language Skills in Spanish, French or Portuguese (written and spoken) – a plus.Additional Requirements Person must be willing to remain in this position for a minimum of two years. Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening and driving record check. Must not be color blind – distinct color acuity is required in this industry. Must be able to work in various indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to lift parcels and equipment weighing up to 50lbs. Must be able to climb ladders and work from aerial lifts. Must be able to obtain a U.S. Passport. Must be willing to travel domestically approximately 60%. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have a primary means of transportation to support local travel.

The range for this position is $67,045.00 - $92,187.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
