Field Service Winder Engineer

As a Field Service Winder Engineer, you will play a vital role in creating products that fulfil both business and technical needs of our customers. You'll oversee the installation/commissioning/startup and various level maintenance/trouble-shooting of our products. You'll use your knowledge and skills to deliver innovative solutions for our customers.

As a Field Service Winder Engineer, you will be responsible for:

Perform Winding inspection, electrical testing, maintenance and repairs on Generator HV windings on customer sites globally.Carry out basic mechanical strip-down (and rebuild) of machines to gain access to the generator windings.Carry out electrical testing on high and low voltage windings in the field.Carry out visual winding inspections of the stator, rotor and excitation system.Carry out in-situ generator  winding repairs including stator re-wedge work.Work as part of a team for on-site stator strip and rewind operations.Assist mechanical service engineer(s) on assignments, which will not necessarily involve winding related activities.Supervise and train internal and external customers. Interpret technical drawings, specifications and technical requirements; prepare method statements and prepare detailed and concise reports for submission to customers.  Attend technical meetings on site and at customers’ premises.Carry out an on-site risk assessment on every assignment and record details thereof on the special form provided.Carry out other reasonable duties as directed from time to time by the Field Service Manager

To be successful in this role you will:

Hold a Qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.At a minimum, qualified through a recognized Craft apprenticeship in armature winding on large high voltage rotating electrical machines.Experience of working on competitors equipment would be an advantage. Competent in soldering, brazing, crimping and HV insulating procedures.An effective communicator, fluent in both spoken and written English and Portuguese. Able to undertake extensive overseas and offshore working, often for protracted periods.Experienced in representing the Company at customers’ sites and operating remotely on own initiative whilst observing the requirements set down in the Company’s Code of Conduct for Service/Commissioning Engineers.Able to work with Company’s rules and guidance notes on health and safety, including operation of safe systems of work in relation to high voltage and medium voltage electrical systems and work in a heavy industrial environment.This is a challenging and important role requiring a high degree of technical competence with a corresponding level of self-sufficiency and resourcefulness, as global time differences often mean that factory support is not immediately available.  The nature of the work calls for strength of character and physical fitness.Differing assignments may require working alone or as a member of a team.Clear understanding of cultural differences and has the diplomacy to cope with aspect of the role.
