Field Technician, Environmental

We are currently seeking a motivated self-starter to work as an Environmental Field Technician within the Kitchener Environmental Division.

Responsibility Conduct a variety of field sampling and data collection activities to support Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, excess soil and site remediation projects; Collect water samples from municipal or regulated non-municipal drinking water systems; Complete field-based investigations such as elevation surveys, monitoring well development, drilling supervision, collection of water levels, soil and groundwater sampling, sample preparation and submission to analytical laboratories; Communicate with contractors including drillers, excavators, utility locators and laboratories; Prepare field-based deliverables, including detailed field notes and field forms, borehole logs, and photo logs; Attend and participate in project meetings, as required; Inspect, maintain and calibrate sampling field equipment in accordance with MTE Standard Operating Procedures; and Other related duties, as assigned. Requirements Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences, Hydrogeology or equivalent; Previous relevant field experience is an asset; Future eligibility or current holder of a Water Quality Analyst (WQA) issued by the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO) would be considered an asset; Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act; Technical understanding of provincial (Ontario) regulations and industry standard practices related to environmental site assessment, including an understanding of O.Reg. 128/04 (Safe Drinking Water Act), O.Reg. 153/04 (Records of Site Condition), O.Reg. 406/19 (On-Site and Excess Soil Management), O.Reg. 903 (Well Regulation) and CSA Standard for Phase II ESAs; Experience in sample collection and with the use of field equipment, including surveying equipment; Knowledge of soil classification, contaminant transport, hydrogeology and environmental site assessment; Reliable, well organized and with a strong attention to detail; Strong time management skills, problem solving skills and decision-making abilities; Enjoy working outdoors, including long field days and working in all weather conditions; Ability to lift equipment up to 25 kilograms; Travel to project sites and occasional evening and/or overnight stays are required; and Required to have access to a vehicle and a valid ‘G’ driver’s license for travel to project sites. Mileage will be reimbursed for work related travel.
