Job Description

We offer a broad range of professional, engineering, and technical services to the telecommunications and power delivery markets. We have a current opening for a Utility Technician. Our services include Communications Design Services, Energy Distribution Services, Utility Pole Inspection, and Environmental Services.

ResponsibilitiesCollect field data using tripod mounted GPS unit (EOS Arrow Gold), laser range finder (TruPulse 200x), and tablet (iPad Pro 11).Take field notes and complete data collection for fiber optic internet design utilizing existing power infrastructure.Document field data and take measurements of existing utilities and communications attached to power company poles.Utilize ESRI Collector to document and compile collected field data.Walk around rural areas to all of the electric power poles owned by the utility company.Take laser measurements of the poles, including the lowest electric power attachment and heights of transformers.Take photos of poles and electric meters.Follow power routes for fiber optic internet design projects.Essential SkillsKnowledge of power pole components such as cross arms, drip loops, transformers, and communication attachments.Ability to travel and stay overnight if not within an hour of the job site.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.Ability to walk long distances through rugged terrain in various weather conditions.Detail-oriented with problem-solving abilities.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new software.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Ability to meet daily collection goals.Ability to lift/carry at least 25 lbs.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with GIS, Utility Technician, Survey, or Civil Engineering Certificate, an Associate degree or a Bachelor’s degree.Experience using GPS units and tablets for data collection.Experience with spatial data collection software (ESRI Collector or equivalent).Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of software/hardware from the field.Work Environment

This role requires 100% fieldwork in rural areas, involving walking in rough terrain and various weather conditions (rain, snow, cold, heat) for up to 10 hours a day. You will carry a tripod, iPad, and laser/GPS equipment and work alone at poles, within a few miles of other team members. The work location is currently within a radius of about an hour from Columbus, Ohio. Lodging is provided in motels with individual rooms. Work hours are from sun up to sun down Monday through Friday and 8 hours on Saturdays, with no more than 70-hour work weeks. You will have a full weekend rotation home every 3-4 weeks if you choose. Per Diem is $30/day, with specifics on meal allowances and conditions. Personal protective equipment includes a high visibility vest and optional hard hat, with good walking boots required but not provided.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00
