The Department of Finance at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Finance Business Partner. This position reports directly to the Budget Manager in Finance with matrix reporting to the departmental and office leadership that they support. The ideal candidate will bring their knowledge of financial modeling, business planning, data analysis and visualization, and understanding of financial processes to ensure their departments/offices are supported in all areas of finance.

Purpose

The UT Health System and Dell Medical School Finance Business Partner provides consultative support for assigned departments and offices, creating a trusted and active partnership between finance and operations. This position spends significant time with executives and leaders to assess needs while providing real time support, financial analysis, and strategic guidance as a trusted advisor to the department/office. The Finance Business Partner provides financial insight across their assigned areas as well as enterprise wide and is responsible for working closely with assigned departments to understand the business and competitive environment, applicable metrics of performance, and other trends affecting the industry. This position plays a key role in developing individual budgets for their assigned areas as well as rolling up information into the overall system budget each year. Additionally, the Finance Business Partner works with departments to develop proformas, adjust forecasts, analyze trends, and use their insight to provide information and recommendation to leadership in both assigned departments and finance. 

Responsibilities

Serves as a leader in creating operational, capital, and project-specific budgets while working closely with Finance on the system-wide budget process.

Supports the annual budget process by participating in development of the annual budget including leading and providing guidance for budget development to assigned departments.

Provides on-going oversight of budget performance, updates monthly forecasts, and provides variance analysis reporting to department and finance.

Acts as a primary contact and partner to their assigned departments for all things related to organizational finance. Develops and maintains a trusted relationship with leadership in their assigned departments.

Analyzes clinical and healthcare trends as they relate to operational areas, providing guidance on how these affect financial metrics.

Collaborates with operational areas to create business plans, ensuring they align with operational and strategic goals. Ensures financial modeling is accurate and provides ongoing follow up analysis on performance of any approved business plans.

Collaborates on the development of financial dashboards for departments and school-wide utilization.

Understands productivity targets and provides analysis related to MGMA, AAMC, and department-specific benchmarks. Provides recommendations to leadership to meet expected targets.

Provides training to departments on productivity benchmarks and reporting. Collaborates on investigating benchmark results or questions.

Reviews and ensures position control data is accurate and provides the financial details necessary for any new requests going to the Operations Coordinating Group which may include, but is not limited to, volume trends, FTE trends, benchmarking, and operational change impacts.

Understands and communicates financial trends to assigned departments and proactively identifies opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, utilization which may result in cost savings or revenue improvements.

Participates or leads process improvement projects impacting finance and operations, this may be at the institution or departmental level.

Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and 5 years of progressive, professional finance, accounting, or consulting experience. Broad knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Experience in communicating and presenting complex ideas and processes to varied audiences. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated leadership skills, including but not limited to, collaboration, communication, integrity, transparency, and execution. Must possess broad industry knowledge of academic health care. Strong knowledge of financial applications and processes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism in dealing with staff at all levels of the institution. Effective problem-solving skills. Ability to develop, prioritize, and accomplish goals. Demonstrated analytical thinking, critical thinking, and project management competencies. Ability to analyze and evaluate data and make appropriate decisions/ recommendations.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field. Experience working with Workday Financials. 3 years of experience working in a financial role at an academic health institution.

Salary Range

$85,138+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position; remote work is expected with limited possibility of hybrid work.

Standard office environment and equipment.

Requires occasional travel to local, state, and national meetings.
