The Opportunity
Arup is seeking a Project Controller based in our Amsterdam office to spearhead the accurate financial position of our projects. This role is integral within the finance team and you will work in an international environment with multidisciplinary teams collaborating closely with project managers and directors.
Responsible for advising and driving the budgeting and forecasting of projects enabling the project manager/project director to manage their projects most effectively. Through evaluating the projects, the chosen candidate will play an important role in informing leadership enabling actions that can influence the future of the organization.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
· Commercial partner to the Project Manager and Director to drive improved financial performance and provide decision support analysis.
· Supervise Project Controllers and/or take a lead role for the Project Controller team. Guide process changes, encourage skills development, manage coverage and resourcing and establish reporting processes.
· Track issues on projects and recommend and help drive solutions for identified risks. Work with Project Managers to implement project-specific cost control methods to ensure project profitability.
· Support Project Director and Manager (Monthly meetings/reviews with PM/PD) on commercial side, working on monitoring costs against project forecasts on a monthly basis and conducting variance analysis.
· Support project financial performance, budgeting, and help maintain project financial health; working reports including, but not limited to, resource planning, estimates to completion, etc.
· Identify project financial issues and elevate to PM (business partner) and Controller. Ability to recognize risks and work with PMs to develop mitigation measures and assess impact on financial performance.
Skills and Expertise
· At least 7 years of experience in a role as accountant, controller, project administrator or similar positions;
· Completed HBO/WO education in financial direction (Netherlands), or equivalent international qualification, such as a Bachelor Degree in a Finance related subject.
· Excellent communication skills in the Dutch and English language;
· Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously, while also being detail-oriented, thorough, and able to optimally manage time.
· High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
· Team player with excellent listening skills and willingness to work with multiple colleagues on a broad range of initiatives.
· Ability to work in a high-paced environment.
· Consultative approach and strong collaborative problem-solving skills.
· Proactive and goal-oriented, with the ability to work independently and handle change effectively.
