What we want
This Financial Accountant IV position is responsible for serving as a lead accountant and providing technical expertise in student accounting at a university level within the Division of Finance. The accountant analyzes and prepares student clearing account reconciliations for three agencies; prepares inter-agency revenue, receivables and security transfers; assists with year-end close out and prepare Annual Financial Reports (AFR) schedule and other state student accounting reporting.

Position Details: Must be able to read, type and 10-key at a computer.
Required Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Five years of accounting experience in a business office.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Practical knowledge of governmental and higher education operations
+ Experience preparing, approving or analyzing accounting data
+ Ability to analyze activities and recommend process/internal control improvements
+ Proficient user of Excel or other spreadsheet software and working knowledge of word processing software
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Ability to work independently when necessary
+ Strong decision-making ability
+ Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in Accounting
+ Knowledge of reconciliations and familiarity with automated reconciliation systems
+ Experience in higher education accounting and/or higher education student systems
+ Familiarity with FAMIS/Canopy, Banner/Compass, Business Objects and the TAMU environment
+ Practical knowledge of student systems and/or student accounting
+ Basic understanding of student database query
+ 10-key by touch
+ Ability to assist a variety of customers.
Essential Duties/Tasks
RECONCILIATION/VERIFICATION - Student Systems Clearing Accounts
+ Accounting feeds, payments/returned payments, refunds, contract/sponsorship payments, waivers/exemptions, delinquent account bad debt, loan payments, disbursements, and collections, student deposits, financial aid receipts, state award reimbursements
JOURNAL ENTRIES, SECURITY TRANSFERS AND WIRES
+ State tuition remit, TPEG Set Asides, Designated Tuition Set Asides, ALIO; cross campus registration revenue, receivables transfers
+ Cross campus student payment transfers
+ Payments for previously written-off student accounts; corrections (suspense, prod card, Banner or FAMIS feed errors, program deposits, etc.)
+ Student loan bank transfers
REPORTING SUPPORT
+ State Reports: Year-end process scheduling; Annual Financial Report, including year-end close out entries; Sources & Uses
+ The Higher Education Coordinator Board Integrated Financial Reporting (THECB IFRS)
+ Reports to Budget on student related financial activities TAMU Reports.
+ As needed for inter/intra agency requests Design and request new automated reports and/or processes as need arises
PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE
+ Provide technical expertise and serve as a resource to: recognize, investigate, and resolve outstanding reconciling items.
+ Advise other areas on approaches and accounting for new or revised processes.
+ Provide guidance to other accountants.
+ Provide advanced student financial data analysis.
+ Evaluate and recommend processes and procedures
