Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager for Mission Support in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), you will have the opportunity to apply a variety of skills ranging from providing financial analysis related to the preparation of proposals and budgets, approving and monitoring expenses, analyzing and translating financial results into accurate forecast and business drivers, evaluating controls and compliance with government accounting requirements, and supporting improvement of OCFO processes.** **You will also provide management decision support using PeopleSoft,** **Workday Adaptive, Tableau,** **SQL, and Excel-based tools.** **This position is expected to maintain an effective and engaged working relationship across all finance functions at SLAC (peers within and outside of the team, business managers, finance managers, cost account managers (CAMs), Principal Investigators, directorate management, Controller¿s Office, Budget Office, Human Resources). The ideal candidate is skilled in balancing customer service and support with controls and compliance.** **SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, operated by Stanford University, is one of 17 Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories.** **Your specific responsibilities include:** + **Perform complex finance and/or accounting functions and/or activities requiring advanced knowledge and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems. Complete work independently, and manage a key area within a finance operation, as needed.** + **Construct and assemble data for budgeting, forecasting, and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high-level summary of recommendations.** + **Serve as a business decision resource partner on matters that require financial expertise.** + **Collaborate with principal investigator(s) in the preparation and financial reporting of proposals within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines.** + **Work under minimal supervision to manage the proposal preparation and/or post award activities on grants, contracts, program projects, and federal grants, both routine and complex.** + **Review and approve expenditures, advise on post award spending and commitment activity, and oversee compliance related to fund and revenue.** + **Design and perform ad hoc analyses; develop and maintain complex data models, perform sensitivity analysis, analyze large complex data sets, and reconcile complex accounts.** + **Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas; apply ingenuity and creativity to problem analysis and resolution and recognize exceptions.** + **Conduct analysis and resolution and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making.** + **Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes.** + **Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives; cooperate and adapt to changes and processes.** + **Contribute and communicate to unit and organization strategy; assist in the development of change management plans, web content, and provide support for course delivery and materials update, as needed.** + **Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility.** + **Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes and identify opportunities for process improvement.
