Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Manager for Accelerator Directorate (AD) in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), you will have the opportunity to apply a variety of skills ranging from providing financial analysis related to the preparation of proposals and budgets, approving and monitoring expenses, analyzing and translating financial results into accurate forecast and business drivers, evaluating controls and compliance with government accounting requirements, and supporting improvement of OCFO processes. You will also provide management decision support using PeopleSoft, Workday Adaptive, SQL, and Excel-based tools. This position is expected to maintain an effective and engaged working relationship across all finance functions at SLAC (peers within and outside of the team, finance managers, cost account managers (CAMS), Principal Investigators, directorate management, Budget Office, Controller¿s Office, etc.). The ideal candidate is skilled in balancing customer service and support with controls and compliance. The Accelerator Directorate (AD) at SLAC is one of the lab¿s six science mission directorates, AD¿s mission is Maintain and develop accelerator technology to serve SLAC's mission and the DOE complex. Operate the existing accelerators at SLAC and provide an outstanding level of performance. Improve the capability of existing accelerators and support the construction of new ones. Develop enabling technologies for existing and future accelerators. Educate the next generation of accelerator scientists and engineers. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, operated by Stanford University, is one of 17 Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories. **Your specific responsibilities include:** + Perform complex finance and/or accounting functions and/or activities requiring advanced knowledge and application of internal policies, external regulations, precedents, and systems. Complete work independently, and manage a key area within a finance operation, as needed. + Construct and assemble data for budgeting, forecasting, and decision making; develop conclusions, and present high-level summary of recommendations. + Collaborate with principal investigator(s) in the preparation and financial reporting of proposals within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines. + Design and perform ad hoc analyses; develop and maintain complex data models, perform sensitivity analysis, analyze large complex data sets, and reconcile complex accounts. + Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas; apply ingenuity and creativity to problem analysis and resolution and recognize exceptions. + Develop complex budget and forecasting scenarios, long-range planning and analyses for financial reporting and presentations; design and run adhoc reports. + Manage the proposal preparation and/or post award activities for a large volume and diverse set of complex federal and non-federal sponsored research projects, involving multiple sub-awards, principal investigators, and/or cross-school initiatives. Ensuring that the proposal is compliant and follows all the call requirements as well as the internal processing requirements here at SLAC. This requires but is not limited to handling the compiling of all proposal documents, working on internal TARC and PI waiver processes, input into grants module and understanding ProPricer budgeting, in addition to all the quarterly or annual reporting during the post award. + Conduct analysis and resolution and recognize exceptions. Participate in developing solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational perspective in decision making. + Execute internal control programs established by management, research new regulations, and recommend and implement approved changes. + Participate as a member of a project team; support new initiatives; cooperate and adapt to changes and processes. + Develop and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation for area of responsibility. + Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes and identify opportunities for process improvement. Perform system testing and analyze results. + Provide consulting advice to client group(s); serve as a resource on matters that require specific technical, financial, or subject matter expertise; support negotiations with external partners. + May train, coach, and review the work of other staff, as needed.
