The Dean’s Office Finance team is responsible for providing leadership, guidance and oversight of financial operations within SDSS. In the current fiscal year (2023-2024), SDSS operates on a consolidated budget of approximately $165M. It is a basis on which SDSS is expected to grow exponentially over the coming decade as it moves toward fulfilling its long-range plan and mission.
This Financial Analyst role is ideal for a self-motivated, seasoned finance professional looking to expand their organizational impact. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional analytical skills and the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to solve problems and perform analytical tasks. They must possess, or demonstrate the ability to quickly acquire, in-depth knowledge of university policies, systems, and practices necessary to perform their job duties as well as to serve as a resource to the school community. They must be a proactive problem-solver and continuously identify opportunities for process improvement, propose recommendations, and implement solutions. It is critical that the successful candidate is an effective communicator, able to organize and communicate complex financial information using an appropriate combination of spreadsheets, graphs, and narratives. They must also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships within the school community as well as the broader university.
Your Responsibilities will include:
Design and perform highly complex financial analyses; Gather and synthesize data; identify trends, draw conclusions, develop solutions, present and implement recommendations, conduct impact assessment. Develop complex budget and forecasting scenarios, long-range planning, and analyses for financial reporting and presentations, leveraging advanced technical knowledge and experience. Identify and resolve exceptional issues with substantial significance; maintain broader organizational and university perspective in problem resolution. Recommend, design, and implement enduring solutions that may entail policy updates and process re-engineering. Manage compliance program for areas of responsibility, interpret internal policy and external regulations, and create and/or review complex compliance reports. Lead or participate in compliance projects. Engage in continuous critical analysis of existing systems and processes; make recommendations to achieve greater efficiencies and improve internal controls. Design and produce routine and ad hoc reports. Review and approve complex financial transactions. Support organizational strategic priorities, lead and support change management initiatives. Manage complex business processes, policies, and systems. Assess client and business needs and formulate recommendations to determine the approach to managing and completing processes. Provide training and ad hoc support to client groups. Represent organization to external partners.To be successful in this position, you will need:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel. Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning and financial systems; internet and computer literacy. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Advanced professional communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management. Strong project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.In addition, our preferred requirements include:
Advanced knowledge of Tidemark budget system. Experience partnering successfully with decentralized administrative staff. Strong analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information. Demonstrated success in performing meticulous, high quality, and compliant work. Ability to interpret complex research and fiscal policies, assimilate information from a wide range of resources and act like a mentor and resource to others.The expected pay range for this position is $111,000 to $143,000 per annum.
