The Financial Analyst provides a full range of financial services to assigned divisions within the Department of Pediatrics. The Financial Analyst prepares financial reports, conducts special projects, prepares annual budgets and provides financial analysis to all levels of management. The Financial Analyst is able to manage a complex workload of multiple divisions and is effective and efficient in coordinating with division chiefs and other division managers and staff. The Department of Pediatrics is the second largest department in the University of Utah School of Medicine and one of the largest pediatric departments in the country. Prepares and interprets management information and other financial reports. 2. Analyzes trends and possible consequences. 3. Analyzes financial documents, statistical data, historical data and presents and interprets for management. 4. Participates in the establishment and maintenance of cost accounting systems. 5. Audits accounting systems, reconciles ledger and payroll data and resolves technical problems; recommends solutions when appropriate. 6. Recommends and implements improvements that affect accounting systems and departmental operations. 7. Prepares, monitors and provides reports for departmental/divisional budgets. 8. Prepares grant budgets and provides assistance with grant proposals. 9. Provides training on financial issues and procedures; provides guidance to more junior staff. 10. Researches and prepares necessary revenue, expense, payroll, journal entries and other accounting procurements and/or corrections. 11. Independently determines the type and nature of analysis to be used to obtain the desired information or results, including data to be collected, analysis methods, presentation, format and report structure. 12. Remains compliant with all accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP and NIH , State, Private, Foundation and University policies (dependent upon the policies surrounding specified funding sources). 13. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects, determining the best course of action or appropriate resources needed to complete a project or address a problem, obtaining valid data and creating clear and understandable reports that reflect the data being sought. 14. Collaborates with centralized financial team to address issues, challenges and trends. 15. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead. **Minimum Qualifications** Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus two years of related experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices; spreadsheet and database skills; knowledge of statistics and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relation and effective communication skills required. An advanced degree, such as a Master’s of Business Administration, is preferred.
