SUMMARY
Under general direction, conducts and documents a range of financial analyses projects in areas such as budgets, forecasts, financial plans, utilization, governmental requirements, statistical reports, cash flow projections, and business forecasts. Prepares independent projections and critically reviews projections prepared by others. Interprets and implements complex financial and accounting concepts, or techniques needed for financial planning and control. Performs financial research and analyses for use in the development of business strategies and tactics and in the subsequent appraisal of results. Prepares statistical studies and forecasts and makes recommendations based on conclusions. Serves as a consultant to staff members and managers in a range of departments and locations. May function as a lead financial analyst, providing advice and training to lower-level analysts. Typically reports to a finance manager or director.
Essential Functions
· Analyzes and audits complex financial, budgetary, or medical claims information to determine present and future financial performance and to ensure necessary compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Participates in the development of long-range financial forecasts and related budgets, considering alternative scenarios and factors as appropriate.
· Monitors and performs on-going financial analyses for the development and management of programs, initiatives, or budgets, providing support through forecasting, statistical analyses, trending, regression analyses, risk assessment, utilization assessment, and financial model development. Identifies key issues and trends and makes recommendations to department director as needed.
· Under the guidance of a finance manager or director, gathers, analyzes, summarizes, and prepares recommendations regarding financial plans, acquisition activity, new business planning, trended future requirements, government requirements, budget planning and operating forecasts.
· Assists in the development of budgets, financial planning tools, pro forma models and other materials needed to fulfill corporate financial requirements. Participates in the development of measures, indicators, and benchmarks as well as in the development of new methods for analyses and comparison.
· Interprets and applies company financial policies, government legislation, and accounting theory.
· Oversees the production of regularly scheduled financial reports. Interprets, reviews, and presents financial results, highlighting areas of concern.
· Researches and prepares special reports on subjects such as rate of return, depreciation, working capital requirements, investment opportunities, investment performance, interpretation of budget directives and impact of governmental requirements.
· Conducts special studies to analyze complex financial actions and prepares recommendations for policy, procedure, control, or action. Identifies areas for review and conducts analyses. Analyses may be focused on a single or multiple location, clinical or non-clinical operations or single or multiple cost/revenue/budget items. Frequently reviews and analyzes information submitted by others, providing feedback and recommendations as needed.
· Serves as project leader for large-scale and/or long-term financial projects, often affecting multiple departments. Manages the implementation process and provides summaries and updates to management as needed. Identifies and investigates issues related to assigned projects. Typically selects approach from predetermined methodology options or recommended alternatives. Recommends changes in methodology when needed to best meet corporate objectives.
· Serves as consultant and liaison to staff members in a variety of departments and locations. Provides interpretation of financial policies, governmental legislation, accounting theory, or financial regulations. Recommends cost saving or profit generating opportunities and profitability improvement strategies. Provides direction to on financial issues and problems affecting financial performance and/or projections.
· Ensures necessary data is captured electronically. Monitors and audits data flow. Identifies and resolves data gaps.
· May play lead role with lower level or less experienced analysts.
· May represent the department on committees or at meetings.
· May develop and maintain financial policy and procedures manuals.
· Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education, training, or experience) required, preferably in accounting or finance. MBA or MPH preferred.
Skills and Experience: Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in financial or data analyses. Excellent analytical and quantitative skills including statistical analyses and forecasting. Detail oriented with strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills. Demonstrated project management skills. Experience in healthcare desirable. Must have strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and Access.
