Financial Compliance Specialist (12 - month Hybrid Assignment)

Reporting to the Compliance Manager, the Financial Compliance Specialist will have responsibilities for compliance activities supporting multiple business lines (ABIC, ABLAC, and ASCI).  Your primary duties will include, regulatory filings, and all day-to-day licensing requirements associated with a federally regulated insurance  business.

You will be required to ensure all corporate filings and registrations are completed on a timely basis, and also be expected to assist with the compliance training programs, and data analytics, and help the Senior Compliance Specialist regarding Regulatory Compliance Management risk-based activities, contribute to Compliance Reports to the Chief Agent and senior management, and juggle shifting priorities within the compliance function.

This role is a 12th-month contract assignment and will remain as a hybrid opportunity.

What will my duties and responsibilities be in this job?

Ensure all licensing, regulatory and corporate filings and registrations are completed promptly to ensure compliance

Work closely with Business/Account Executives to ensure all licensing interactions with Clients run smoothly.

Take the lead on interactions with external regulatory staff on licensing matters and escalate areas of concern to the Senior Director

Work closely with the Compliance Manager to ensure all active employees complete all mandatory compliance training modules.

Ensure training completion reconciliations are conducted as needed to ensure 100% completion.

Review, update, or draft (new) local training modules annually

Assist with the  Compliance Training Awareness Program and reporting to executive/senior management locally, internationally, and corporately.

Aid the Senior Compliance Specialist regarding Regulatory Compliance Management risk-based activities, operations compliance, complaint handling, and privacy matters.

Contribute to compliance reports for the chief agent and senior management.

Review outcomes provided daily by third-party monitoring platforms.

Annual Third-Party Vendor Compliance Manual - work with the business to update training materials and facilitate for completion of the compliance attestation from all selected vendors.

Assist Senior Director with annual compliance outsourcing arrangements attestation.

Provide business with day-to-day support.

Assist with other compliance initiatives/activities as directed

Handle records retention inquiries

Assist with the annual AML/ATF risk assessments, produce draft reports, and oversee gap remediation efforts..

Conduct investigations and report on identified matches.

Assist the Senior Director with the reporting of Anti-Money Laundering activities and confirmed Terrorist Property.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

University degree or equivalent post-secondary academic background.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in compliance, risk, quality assurance, or similar role.   

Minimum of 3 years of experience within a financial institution, insurance preferred.

A keen knowledge base of regulators and the regulatory environment for financial services.

Familiarity with federal and provincial insurance acts and regulations including insurance licensing (a plus).

Accustomed to the corporate requirements of a financial institution and its assets.

Knowledgeable of Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act, Regulations, and Guidelines. 

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

Ability to track and analyze data/information effectively for trending and risk identification purposes.

Strong communicator both verbally and in written form.

Capable of drafting policies and procedures.

Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills.

Ability to conduct effective legislative research.   

Adept at software such as MS Office.

Demonstrate a client service mentality.

Adept at creating reference tools and checklists.

Self-learner with a propensity to share knowledge.

Team player, independent worker, relationship builder

Pay Range

$58,800.00 - $97,100.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience, and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
