Job Description:
The Financial Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for the department’s financial transactions. In collaboration with the Associate Director for Finance and Operations, the Financial Coordinator manages all manner of transactions and reports related to the department’s University accounts, Brown Alumni Association (BAA) accounts and Class and Club agency accounts within the Alumni Relations organization structure, which also includes several gift and endowment accounts.
The role processes financial transactions primarily performed in Workday, the University’s accounting system of record, and is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of, interpreting, and applying Workday best practices and a broad range of University policies and business processes. The Financial Coordinator will have a strong working knowledge of the department’s Chart of Accounts, budgets, and policies and protocols related to transaction review and approval. The position regularly reviews, analyzes, and reconciles transactions and accounts with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
This position Coordinator also assists the Associate Director for Finance and Operations in providing regular financial reporting to staff, including creating ad-hoc reports to meet departmental needs. The Coordinator will support programmatic staff department-wide in handling their financial processes. This position is customer-focused and responsive to requests as they arise, working across the department’s various programmatic teams, interdepartmentally with other offices, and externally with volunteers and suppliers to facilitate proper processing of transactions, clear communication, and collaborative coordination.

Job Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field such as financial services, fundraising, higher education, banking, nonprofit or public administration, sales, customer service, etc.
Required Qualifications
High level of accuracy and attention to detail; demonstrated problem-solving ability.
Customer service experience with a strong service-minded philosophy.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate data and processes effectively in a clear, accessible, and user-friendly manner to individuals with varying levels of financial acumen.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Job Competencies
Proficiency with financial reporting and analysis applications such as Workday and Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, spreadsheets, and databases. Ability to learn and utilize new technology.
Customer service experience with a strong service-minded philosophy, positive attitude, and commitment to courtesy and kindness.
Ability to manage tasks independently, problem-solve, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to explain processes patiently and answer questions clearly and thoroughly.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.
Ability to work occasional nights and/or weekends, which is typically seasonal and event-related.
