POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
To assist patients in resolving the financial responsibility of their clinical charges through suitable payment arrangements and/or assistance applications. Meets with and assists patients with Sliding Scale Program applications, is an Insurance Navigator and Certified SHIP Counselor. Completes verification of insurance benefits and enters benefits into the hospital computer system.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
GED or High School Diploma Required Strong experience in customer service is required. Previous experience in a hospital/physician office setting is preferred. Previous financial counseling experience preferred. Certified Indiana Navigator training and certification preferred (or must obtained within the first six months of employment). Ability to discuss financial matters with patients. Knowledge of insurance benefits; experience with insurance benefit verification and/or pre-certification preferred. Medical Terminology helpful and familiarity with CPT-4 and ICD-9 codes. Knowledge of IN Medicaid programs desired. Ability to speak and communicate in Spanish would be beneficial. Strong written/verbal communication skills. Basic level of proficiency with MS Outlook, Word and Excel. Must be proficient with a 10 key calculator, detail oriented with a good numeric aptitude and typing skills of 35 wpm with accuracy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and multi-task while working in a collaborative, team environment with a positive attitude. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and work under deadlines.
