Financial Manager
We are seeking a **_Financial Manager_** to provide financial and administrative support to the Office of the Provost. This role reports to the Finance and Administration Officer and will work collaboratively with the UA Business Office and various University units to support financial planning, analysis, and reporting. The incumbent will provide high-level service to the Provost's Office and its partners and be responsible for all financial activities and compliance with the University’s financial policies. The Financial Manager will collaborate with multiple units in the Provost’s Office – such as academic affairs, education, research, faculty affairs, institutional research and analytics, and more – on budget development and reconciliation, as well as provide monthly and ad hoc financial reports and analysis to ensure the efficient use of resources. **Specific Duties & Responsibilities** _Financial and Administrative Operations_ + Review and provide accurate data and reports to support the Provost's Office annual operating budget process in collaboration with the UA Business Office and each of the core offices within the Office of the Provost, as well as major projects and programs. + Assist in preparing and defending budget proposals to unit and divisional leadership. + Provide financial analysis and monthly/ad hoc financial reports to the Executive Vice Provosts. + Perform monthly reconciliation of all accounts to ensure that transactions are complete and accurate. + Monitor monthly expenditures and revenues compared to budget and gather supporting documentation. Identify significant discrepancies and report them to leadership via written summary. + Provide tracking and reporting support for several centrally managed financial commitments, including the taskforce on the arts and dual career support program. + Use SAP and other data sources to collect, compile, consolidate, and present financial data to leadership, utilizing graphs, tables, slides, etc. Use Microsoft Suite software to assemble, manipulate, and format data and create custom reports. + Provide and interpret financial data to assist leadership in making informed business decisions. + Serve as liaison between the Finance and Administration Officer and administrative staff. + Suggest improvements to help establish best financial practices across the office. + Collaborate with the Finance and Administration Officer and UA Business Office during year-end closing. + Serve as a back-up to the Finance and Administration Officer as needed. _Staff Management_ + Review, approve, and monitor invoices, check requests, travel reimbursements, shopping carts, and purchase orders on a day-to-day basis, in accordance with the University policies and procedures. + Initiate non-payroll cost transfers, e-forms, ISRs, and EAs for the Provost's Office. + Oversee financial support for the Provost's Office. + Stay up to date with training on new technology, programs, and processes. _Human Resources (HR)_ + Work with the Finance and Administration Officer to orient, train, and develop the financial skills of new staff. + Help collect information and process OMT requests for new hires. + Note salary changes due to promotions, merit increases, and reclassifications as they relate to the fiscal budget process. + Perform other duties as requested. _Other_ + Assist leadership with financial analyses by conducting research and collaborating with all relevant stakeholders. + Efficiently manage multiple projects simultaneously. + Contribute to building a culture of high performance and a positive employee experience. + Establish communication channels with staff and faculty to provide advice, assistance, and services that help them achieve their objectives. + Recognize when coworkers need assistance and take the initiative to help. + Serve as a representative of the Provost's Office for budgetary issues as needed. + Other responsibilities as assigned. **Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities** + Knowledge of JHU systems and policies. + Strong customer service orientation with internal and external stakeholders. + Must adhere to guidelines regarding honest reporting of sensitive and confidential information. + Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. + Well-developed written and verbal communication skills. + Collaborative working style with excellent problem-solving skills. + Demonstrated skills in financial analysis, including the development of financial models and forecasts. + Strong knowledge and skills in Microsoft Excel, SAP, and Concur. + Well-organized, flexible, and able to work well in a fast-paced environment. + Ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels of the organization. + Working knowledge of general accounting principles and practices. Previous higher education experience is a plus. **Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field. + Five years related financial/accounting and financial management experience, e.g., planning, directing, monitoring, organizing, and controlling the monetary resources of a department, center, or unit. + Additional education (Master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. **Preferred Qualifications** + CPA or Master’s Degree. + Experience in a higher education setting.
