GENERAL PURPOSE

Leads specialized finance-related activities in support of multiple/large projects/ functions or major business units/product lines. Area supported is a major element of the organization's business/operations. Develops and/or oversees the preparation of highly detailed and the most complex analyses and research for financial forecasts, projections and reports. Assignments typically provide exposure to the most complex financial concepts, issues, and activities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Communication with leadership team, Board of Directors and their advisors on share-based compensation programs.

Conducts activities in accordance with GAAP and established Herman Miller guidelines.

Conducts financial analysis through the application of advanced and/or specialized accounting and finance principles, concepts, theories and techniques.

Contacts and networks with both internal and external sources to collect, validate/interpret more complex data, and leads communication of more detailed technical information.

Continuously increases personal knowledge of the organization and personal business acumen through ongoing learning activities.

Develops work strategies to achieve desired results and conducts activities with limited supervision. Confers with leadership on unusual issues or situations.

Influences business decisions by effectively forecasting, preparing and presenting financial forecasts.

Works as a lead on complex problems / projects that are broad in nature requiring thorough understanding of accounting / finance fundamentals.

Provides support on special projects, as they arise, such as business acquisitions, divestitures.

Works with cross-functional areas to identify and implement continuous process improvements.

Will act as Proxy Project Manager

Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administration of the executive and Board of Director compensation plans, as well as the ESPP.

Accounting for the various stock transactions, often requiring specialized technical knowledge.

Serving as a key contact for stockholders – employee and external.

Development and tracking of equity compensation and departmental budget plans / forecasts.

Completing and file required forms for Section 16 reporting.

Coordination and preparation of the annual Proxy Statement.

Coordination of the annual shareholder material mailing.

Coordination of the Annual Shareholder Meeting.

Compilation of data required for ownership reporting.

Cross functional communication (Payroll, Compensation, Tax, Legal, Subs, A/P, A/R, and G/L).

External vendor communication.

Maintaining and communicating confidential information.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or equivalent; CPA, MBA, or CTP/CCM preferred.

6+ years of professional finance experience.

CPA – Certified Public Accountant and/or CEP – Certified Equity Professional preferred..

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Highly developed and thorough knowledge and expertise in financial area of specialty.

Must have well developed interpersonal and communication skills.

Highly developed analytical skills necessary to analyze problems and generate new ideas and solutions.

Demonstrated ability to identify, define and resolve complex problems, projects, and programs as well as the ability to identify trends and issues.

Proven ability to accomplish desired objectives, outcomes by influencing individuals at all levels, including internal and external management.

Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation, communication software and tools currently being used in the Herman Miller office environment including related Financial programs and software.

Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.

Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation/communication software and tools currently being used in the HMI office environment including related Financial programs and software.

Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
