Financial Risk Intern

Jackson is a leader in the annuity industry with over $40b of invested assets under management (June 30, 2024) and sales reaching almost $8b in annuities in the first half of 2024. **Job Purpose** The Financial Risk Management function plays a key role in designing the framework and developing the analytical toolkit necessary to adequately assess Jackson’s capital and liquidity risk exposures. The Risk team partners with Asset/Liability Management, Actuarial and Treasury functions to protect Jackson’s financial strength and ensure our ability to deliver on promises made to policyholders while meeting stakeholder expectations. The FRM intern will have an opportunity to work on challenging and value-add projects on topics such as stochastic analysis of capital and liquidity risk, simulation of hedge strategy performance, process automation in Python, and using machine learning techniques to fit estimation functions. The 12-week summer internship experience will provide the candidate with a unique experience in a leading financial services company with direct exposure to senior financial risk management professionals. **Essential Responsibilities** The FRM intern will work closely with the Director, Financial Risk and other senior Risk professionals to improve Jackson’s capabilities for projecting and assessing Jackson’s capital and liquidity positions. During their internship, the FRM intern will: + Assist in the development and testing of financial risk models. + Write and test code to value complex financial derivatives and their use in risk management. + Run models and summarize findings for consumption by senior members of the Risk function and other members of the management team. + Review and update model documentation. **Other Duties** + Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Strong understanding of financial mathematics and modeling concepts. + Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills. + Experience with general purpose programming languages, preferably Python. + Effective interpersonal/communication skills. + Ability to effectively manage time and competing priorities. + Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel. **Qualifications** + Undergraduate level rising senior required. + Master’s level candidate preferred. + Major in Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or closely related field of study **Location** Onsite at one of our offices in Lansing, MI, Nashville, or Chicago. Hybrid opportunities may be considered, with a portion of the internship spent at our Corporate Headquarters in Lansing, MI.
