Additional requirements: + One (1) year of experience conducting audits or examinations of financial documents. + Ability to follow directions and complete task(s) as assigned in a timely and efficient manner. + Ability to operate a computer and be knowledgeable in the use of various spreadsheets and word processing software. + Good written and verbal communication skills. Overtime and weekend work may be required. Must be willing to travel 75%-100% of the time. Occasional overnight travel is often required. A valid driver’s license and automobile is required. The starting salary is expected to be at or near the minimum base range, commensurate with experience. The annual salary range for this position is $49,584.72 -$100,797.48. This position includes the addition of a Competitive Area Differential (CAD) of $53.73 monthly/$644.76 annually. Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle. This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the techniques used in conducting examinations of financial institutions or insurance companies;Knowledge of basic accounting or auditing principles; Knowledge of the methods of compiling and analyzing data; Knowledge of monitoring techniques; Knowledge of basic mathematics; Knowledge of Chapter 497; Ability to recognize validity, authenticity and propriety of accounting and operating records; Ability to examine and conduct audits of financial records; Ability to review, analyze and evaluate data; Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; Ability to conduct research and prepare reports; Ability to probe and obtain critical facts; Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques; Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES : If applicable, (Incumbent of position is a member of DFS’ Disaster Response Team and, in that capacity, may be required on short notice to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts.) 1. This position will be responsible for the following in reference to Chapter 497, Funeral and Cemetery Services: + Conduct regulatory compliance inspections, examinations and complaint investigations + Comply with any required examination schedules for all preneed main licensees, their branches and cemetery companies + Comply with any annual and other inspection schedules and examination schedules + Review and analyze reports and documents submitted by licensees, trustees, accountants and others + Maintain records on inspections, examinations and complaints + Assist in scheduling compliance inspections, examinations and complaint investigations as requested + Assist in preparing files/cases for forwarding to the Office of the General Counsel as necessary and identifies for the Director’s and/or Assistant Director's consideration apparent or possible substantive and procedural deficiencies in such files/cases. 2. Act as examiner in charge for examinations of complex or problem financial institutions or investigations of more difficult complaints. As directed, assist in managing contracts of outside accountants/vendors used to perform trust account examinations of licensees. 3. Investigate unlicensed activity. 4. Assist with training and the development of examination procedures. 5. Provide technical expertise to management and assist in training as needed, including making presentations at Board or industry association meetings as requested. 6. Answer questions and inquiries from the public or regulated institutions relative to the statutes, rules and established policies and procedures. 7. Assist with consumer services outreach presentations that involve Chapter 497. 8. Perform related duties, including utilization of equipment, required for the position.
