Hours of Work: Monday – Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm.  After-hours on-call duties on a rotational basis.Screening will begin ASAP and continue until the position(s) is filled.Start date to be determined, but as soon as practicable after the hiring/interview process.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, at-will, benefited Classified 7 level position. Starting salary range: $22.49 - $25.41/hour.

Job Summary:  Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Finish Carpenter I maintains and repairs campus buildings and facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and safety compliance. The role also involves collaborating with others on the Plant Operations team, responding to emergencies, and supporting the campus's overall upkeep.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions: – this position is Non-Exempt, is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

Provides a well-maintained campus as a professional team member by completing accurate and efficient repairs, preventive maintenance, and carpenter functions.Facilitates efficient administrative task completion by producing accurate documentation and reports while ensuring seamless operations and informed decision-making.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge

Knowledge of general architectural standards with a working knowledge of general carpentry, and repair of commercial building fixtures, walls, ceilings, and floors. Knowledge of various hand and power tools related to general carpentry and building maintenance.Knowledge of OSHA requirements and building code regulations; ability to learn, interpret and apply current pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations. Knowledge of commercial door requirements and associated hardware.Working knowledge of ADA accessibility requirements pertaining to fixtures, clearances, tolerances, and access.Working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications – specifically Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader, Professional), as well as database management systems. Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, multi-line telephone, voice recorders, and other electronic devices.

Skills

Trade skills in building construction practices and the ability to read and comprehend commercial building architectural blueprints is required.Essential skills include wall construction and dry wall taping, painting and wall vinyl repair, furniture repair, and experience in the painting of both wall surfaces and metal trim.Trade skills in roofing repair and cabinet work are highly desirable.

Abilities

 

Ability to properly and safely operate equipment/power tools used in installation and maintenance tasks.Must be able to drive vehicles and operate large complex maintenance equipment.Ability to interpret building blueprints, manufacture installation/repair instructions, and safety data sheets.Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process).Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings – either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means – ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence.Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and some interpersonal pressure.Ability to deal effectively and professionally with people; proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, with courtesy and tact, to accurately determine other’s needs, collect necessary information, and follow-through when requested.

Physical/Mental Demands: 

Frequently required to squat, bend, twist, kneel, sit, stand, climb, and extend arms over head Work in environments and conditions above ceilings, on roofs, outside, inside, mechanical rooms, tunnels, labs, arena, hallways, meeting rooms and various campus facilities Exposure to and use of safety equipment for outdoor weather extremes for extended periodsExposure to and use of safety equipment for hazardous materials, biohazards, chemicals, electrical equipment, and fuels/petroleum productsMay be required to climb ladders, maneuver in confined spaces, and work with tools/equipment in unconventional positionsInstances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer useAbility to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, medical codes, or alarms).Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS –

Minimum Qualifications:   

Five years of experience in general carpentry/construction or commercial building maintenanceMust have a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the college insurance carrier requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:   

Associate degree from an accredited institution in a related field of studyTwo years of door hardware and locksmith experienceTwo years of single ply and modified bit roofing experienceTwo years of underground utility locatingTwo years of welding experience
