ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.
Read machining instructions or set up sheets to determine fixtures and grinding wheel to use, machine settings, gear dimensions and tolerances. Tooling and operating sequence are provided. Install specified change gearing.Program and set up CNC OD/ID grinders according to blueprint specifications and knowledge of the grinding process. Clamp work piece in chuck or fixture, or press it on arbor and mount between centers.Set feed rates and rotation speeds of wheel and work piece in relation to each other. Operate gear grinding CNC machines; make adjustments as needed. Add a flow of coolant to process to maintain the proper temperature of the work piece. Frequently operate more than one gear grinding machine. Dress, mount, balance, and change wheels as needed.Master and perform Nital Etching procedure. Use micrometers, indicators and various other precision measuring equipment to set up, adjust, and check dimensions. Assist in analyzing gear grinding machine problems; notify supervisor of any machine or quality problems. Maintain gear grinding equipment; perform preventive maintenance as needed. Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures. Comply with all quality and safety regulations.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires one to three years of trades training or equivalent experience and two to four years of related machining experience. Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percent. Requires the ability to operate various equipment to include form grinders, micrometers, indicators, dressing units, diamond discs, and various other precision measuring equipment. Requires a knowledge of gear principles, tooling, material characteristics, machine shop procedures, abrasives and general machining practices. Requires ability to operator a forklift truck and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
