Summary:

The Product Technician is responsible for operating the winder, grading the material, reclaiming all salvageable materials, & re-entering reclaimed materials into production, ensuring that all products are packaged & stacked in compliance with the Siplast Packaging Specification, & properly stored in the warehouse. The Product Technician reports to the Production Supervisor.

Essential Duties

Grading:

Winder operator – watches finished product as it comes off the machine, is wound on cores, & moves to the pallet for packagingGrade material according to specificationsObtain a sample every 100 rolls.Contact the Lead QA Tech, or Production Supervisor regarding any questionable productsComplete winder reports

Packaging:

Properly install the correct product label, roll identification label on each roll of material, & properly stack roll on palletInsure that roll printer is working properlyPackage each pallet in accordance with the SIPLAST manufacturing specifications.Lubricate bagger & oven chainsShut down bagger and oven at end of production runsRemove bad & wide spec rolls from conveyor & stack on appropriate pallet.Reenter wide spec material according to specificationsKeep cores, labels, pallets, shrink bags, banding, glue, & paper foil set up as needed

Forklift Operator:

Remove bagged pallets from the finishing areaApply & Scan barcode of palletPlace pallet on assigned rackComplete daily forklift checklist for oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, water & hydraulic fluid on department forklift & forward to Maintenance SupervisorComplete Pallet Count report

Reclaiming:

Inspect questionable rollsRemove substandard material from rollsSplice good material together & wind on coresInsert reclaimed rolls into pallets per company standardsAccount for all waste material and seconds produced to ensure accurate daily production recordsComplete Reclaiming reportsRecord various product characteristics (roll length and width, selvage width, roll weight, thickness, mat placement, product appearance, etc.) on Q.A. Report for samples cut every 100 rolls.

Misc.:

Assist the Product Technicians during machine downtime (changeovers, material breaks, sticking, etc.)Perform periodic thorough cleaning duties including tanks, sandpit, various machine, & outside areas, etc.Keep area clean & orderly.Serve on action teams & committees as needed.Comply with the SIPLAST Quality System & its provisions.Other duties, as assigned

Safety:

Comply with all safety regulations & policiesUtilize all prescribed PPE (personal protective equipment), at all times in designated areas (such as safety glasses, welding hoods, gloves, cutting goggles, respirators, shoes, vests, etc.)Observe all safety requirements (such as anti-static, lock out/tag out, hot work permits, forklift seatbelt, etc.)Participate in safety meetingsImmediately report safety hazards to appropriate managementProactively look for safety improvements & bring to the attention of supervisors &/or the corporate standards manager

Physical Demands:

Must meet physical requirements to work in confined spaces as required by OSHAMust be able to lift 50 poundsMust meet physical requirements to safely operate a forklift as required by OSHA.Must be able to climb ladders and stairsMust be able to work standing, stooping, bending, & in squatting positionVisual acuity required to monitor product & equipmentManual dexterity required to operate equipment, etc.Must have the ability to work in plant/warehouse environment (including high/low temperatures, dust, humidity, etc.)Must have the ability to work in confined spaces

High School Diploma or GEDCertified forklift operator or ability to be trained & certified

Ability to be trained in, & demonstrate comprehension in material gradingBecome knowledgeable of all productsHave legible writing skills for the completion of daily reportsAbility to be trained in & demonstrate comprehension of startup, operation & shut down of auto-bagger machine, oven, stacker, wrapping table & the operation of the stretch film machine
