MISSION / SUMMARY:

 

The mission of the Finishing Manager is to deliver the safety, quality, and the productivity of the department to mee the organization’s goals.  This position is responsible for the implementation of quality assurance for the departments - including procedures, standards, training, and quality control measures.  They are also responsible for the equipment maintenance to manufacturers’ standards, including scheduling with the maintenance department. They will manage department personnel, including selection, hiring, training, safety, development, performance appraisals and discipline when necessary.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

Manages and facilitates the long-term goals of the Finishing department. Utilizes knowledge and experience, providing training to supervision. Responsible for their individual performance as well as resolving production problems. Helps department achieve goals and has responsibility for personnel issues, including required discipline. Provides a communication network between direct reports and upper management. Works with all employees to maintain a safe work environment. Encourages and leads department to work in a safe manner and to seek improvement in work practices for their benefit. Develops and implements safety procedures and partners with the Safety Coordinator in achieving departmental and plant safety goals. Assures that the department maintains quality standards and uses internal policies and procedures for problem resolution through knowledge of product specifications and training of personnel. Ensures that product quality, production efficiencies, and overall productivity meet or exceeds established standards, and is directly accountable for expenditures exceeding budgeted levels. Strives to be technically proficient on the machinery in the department. Provides assistance to the team in problem resolution and assures that testing and product development is carried out in a professional manner. Works effectively with other department managers to resolve issues and coordinate efforts to achieve stated goals. Shares an obligation to protect and strengthen Graphic Packaging International’s good reputation in our relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, investors, and governmental agencies, and to act consistently with our core values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork Strives to be technically proficient on the machinery in the department. Assists the team in problem resolution. Participates in Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required. Follows all procedures related to producing Safe Quality Foods (SQF). Reports any potentially unsafe SQF conditions or customer complaints to a person of authority to record and/or correct the situation. Other duties as assigned.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

Must have 3+ or more years’ experience in a folding carton packaging industry or similar manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory/Management experience Experience working with high volume printing and converting equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office SAP experience a plus. Continuous Improvement Agility - Improve Safety, Cost, Productivity, Quality & Morale Coachable - willingness to make changes daily as required

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

A four-year college degree is preferred with equipment-direct experience in the folding carton industry. Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, successful track record in cost savings initiatives (Safety, Waste, Continuous Improvement) Trained or knowledge of SQF prerequisites including GMP, Food Defense, etc.

Good interpersonal skills; ability to positively influence people. Good organizational skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to motivate people to perform at higher levels. Ability to demonstrate strong leadership and teamwork to ensure safe and efficient operations. Ability to align with and champion company and mill policies and procedures.

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

 

General schedule is an 8+-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.  Must be willing to work weekend duty.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time up to 8+-hour Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs. Reading computer screen or other electronic devices. Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment Employee is required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protecting when in the manufacturing area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity. The noise level in the immediate work environment is normally quiet, however requires exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.

This role is incentive plan eligible.  Additional information will be shared during the hiring process. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, past experience, job duties, geography, and business need, among other things.

 

Pay Range:   $93,030.00 - $124,005.00
