Job Title Finishing Operator II Position Overview Finishing Operator II Shaw Industries is looking for a Finishing Operator II to m aintain a continuous flow of properly coated and dried carpet from the coater. Latex Application A. Ensure carpet is feeding correctly into precoat direct applicator, making sure to fix and report folded carpet to Sew-on Operator. B. Identify style to be run using Sew-In Tracker screen. C. Reference spec sheet to identify correct application settings for the given style. 1. Application (precoat and adhesive) 2. Cupweight 3. Puddle height (precoat and adhesive) 4. Gap D. Enter correct settings into Latex Control System. E. Manually check gap with gages and adjust system if necessary. F. Visually inspect latex application and troubleshoot using Latex Control System as necessary. Notify supervisors of issues. G. Make sure precoat end dams are set up correctly and latex is not getting on carpet selvage. Adjust end dams as necessary. H. Perform all previous steps again for each style change. I. Manually check cupweight and viscosity 4 times per shift and log in notebook. Also do this for any backing or weight check requested by supervisor. J. Work with department management to improve Latex Control System and latex application process. II. Operate Ovens A. Make sure all oven zones are at correct temperature using Coater Console. B. Ensure proper burner and fan function. C. Contact supervisor if problems arise. III. Operate Coater Console A. Sew-On Operator will call to announce style changes, but Console Operator is expected to monitor Shopflex as well. B. Given the style, reference spec sheet to determine line speed. C. Input line speed from spec sheet into Coater Console. D. Field calls/radio communication from line associates and supervisors regarding issues that may require a line speed reduction (low j-boxes, full accumulators, other equipment issues). IV. Operate Pre/Main Tenter A. Ensure proper pinning of carpet. 1. Carpet should not be folded or pinned past the selvage. B. Check tenter pins once per hour for latex buildup (main tenter only). C. Ensure proper oil application onto tenter pins (main tenter only). D. Adjust tenter widths as necessary to accommodate width variations in carpet. The tenter must always pull the carpet taut side-to-side, without providing so much tension that seams or backing bust. E. Report any issues (equipment or process) to supervisor. V. Operate Steamer A. Verify that steamer is receiving steam from boilers. B. Verify that steamer is at correct settings. C. Ensure that pile rakers are working properly and not creating defects on the face of the carpet (rust, streaks, etc). VI. Maintain Press Roller A. Regularly clean off latex build-up on press roller using scrape tool. B. Pay attention to press roller bearings and report any indications of wear/pending failure to supervisor. VII. Downtime Reporting A. Record all downtime on the Down Time Report paper form and submit to supervisor at the end of shift. VIII. Attendance Policy A. Must adhere to the Corporate Attendance Policy B. Must notify the previous shift supervisor of an imminent absence 1 to 2 hours before shift change C. Must speak personally with supervisor detailing the reason for absence IX. Work Schedule A. Must work all scheduled work hours for your shift B. Must be able to work weekends C. Must be able to work 12-hour shifts D. Must be able to work holidays as necessary Non-Essential duties: I.
