Position Overview:

The position of Fire Alarm Engineer 3 manages all aspects of fire detection and alarm projects, including design, fabrication, pretesting, installation, and commissioning.

The Fire Alarm Engineer 3 provides code-compliant deliverables and detailed shop drawings to ensure the design intent is met during construction as well as fulfills Quality Control function onsite.

Position Responsibilities:

·         Design of Fire Alarm & Detection, Supervising Station and Mass Notification Systems

·         Provide a Building and Life safety code compliant set of deliverables, including shop drawings and calculations to achieve the intent of design in construction.

·         Proficient in navigating the IBC International Building Code, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, and NFPA 70 National Electrical Code.

·         Performs programming and troubleshooting of fire detection and alarm systems.

·         Provide training on the operations and maintenance of the system and produce close-out documentation.

·         Support the day-to-day operations of a project or sub-section of a project.

·         Performs site surveys and produces survey reports.

·         Produces takeoff sheets, bill of materials, and contributes to project proposals.

·         Maintain organized and detailed project records.

·         Creates a task oriented schedule and maintains a baseline.

·         Identify, document, and resolve issues.

·         Lead lessons learned meetings.

·         Support project-closeout including punch list creation, management, and closure.

·         Maintain as-builts as work is completed. 

Education & Technical Experience Required:

·         Bachelor of Science in Engineering Discipline, with Electrical or Fire Protection Engineering preferred, and 5 + years of experience.

·         Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline with 3 + years of experience.

·         Minimum of 2+ years of experience in the design and review of Fire Protection.

·         Experience in developing plans and specifications for a wide variety of Fire Alarm.

·         Intimate knowledge of NFPA and building codes; experience with working with plan reviewers & AHJs

·         General life safety design knowledge along with programming and commissioning of FA systems; experience with Notifier & VESDA is a plus.

·         Fluent in ACAD / Revit or other design tools.

·         Performs complete system layout in accordance with code, battery calculations and develop sequence of operations / scripts for complete FA systems; and

·         Prior hands-on field experience.

·         Strong knowledge of Siemens fire alarm systems and programming

·         Previously possess a NICET 3 in Fire Alarm, or ability pass NICET 3 in 180 of employment. 

Abilities:

·         Exposure to computer screens for an extended period of time.

·         Sitting for extended periods of time.

·         Reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.

·         Have finger dexterity in order to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hands or arms, for example, using a keyboard.

·         Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

·         Communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

·         Read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.

·         Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

·         Identify and understand the speech of another person.
