Fire Marshal

Job Purpose or Objective(s): ​The Fire Marshal will perform fire prevention activities conducted by the Nation, including fire investigations, plan review process, fire code inspection/enforcement, and permit issuance.  You will also serve as a liaison to the city fire departments within the Choctaw Nation. You will report to the Deputy Fire Marshal.

Primary Tasks:

Conduct fire investigations on the Choctaw Nation Reservation and determine cause and origin, while preserving evidence for criminal cases, that go to court. Conduct building plans review for new construction or remodel, to ensure code compliance. Coordinate and assist CNCA in development and construction activities where fire codes, ordinances or standards may affect such activities. Conduct field inspections of construction projects to ensure code compliance. Conduct fire and life safety inspections on Choctaw Nation owned buildings along with properties that are in consideration for purchase. Conduct fire prevention programs for all ages. Maintain complete records for all investigation, inspection and fire prevention activities and submit monthly and annual reports to the Fire Marshal summarizing fire protection activities. Help develop and implement departmental policies and goals. Monitor hazards and threats 24/7 and perform as emergency operations staff for all emergency responses and planned events. Perform other tasks as may be assigned.

Job Requirements:

Associate degree fire science or related field and three [3] years of experience in fire investigation, code enforcement, public education; OR five [5] years of directly related experience in lieu of education ICC, Pro Board or IFSAC Fire Inspector I and II NIMS, 700, 100, 200, 800, 300, 400 or ability to obtain within one year CLEET Law Enforcement certification or the ability to obtain within one year
