The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of fire safety regulations. + Perform fire prevention inspections and fire prevention plan review of building site plans, architectural drawings, and other documentation to determine minimum compliance with appropriate codes and ordinances; review and analyze the compliance of fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, hydrant flow calculations, occupancy, and load capacities or other items + Maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; maintain an awareness of new procedures, trends, and advances in the profession; participate in continuing education activities; attend meetings, workshops, and seminars as appropriate. + Meets with developers, contractors, engineers, architects, and the public to provide guidance and information concerning code compliance procedures; provides advice and direction regarding minimum code compliance and corrective actions. + Coordinate and perform assigned fire safety plan review in support of departmental goals and objectives; coordinate activities with other departments and agencies as needed. + Conduct research and utilize available references to evaluate Fire Code issues + Assist with public education efforts; answer complaints; advise and instruct owners, occupants, contractors, architects, and engineers on fire safety methods and the removal of fire hazards in accordance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code + Prepare written plan review/inspection reports as required, noting any code deficiencies and recommending revisions as necessary + Orders corrections of hazardous conditions and provides follow-up inspections and/or enforcement as deemed necessary. + Performs other duties as assigned. Education, Experience, Licensing Minimum Requirements + Requires any combination and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and four years of work experience in fire safety inspection, building code inspection, building construction, plan examiner, or a closely related field. + Must possess Fire Safety Inspector Certification issued by the Division of State Fire Marshall. + Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required. Supplemental Information + Familiarity with building and fire codes, as well as county ordinances. + Understanding of modern construction methods, materials, and fire protection systems. + Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy. + Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications. + Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. + Skilled in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with inspectors, engineers, builders, homeowners, and the public. + Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with the public and professionals.. The position's work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed.
