SUMMARY: The Fire & Life Safety Coordinator, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting inspections, data collection, documenting findings and scheduling inspections of one or more fire and life safety systems or equipment types, including, but not limited to fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, fire doors, shutters, curtains etc. Duties & Responsibilities: + Performs inspections for one or more fire and life safety systems or equipment types. + Schedules inspections of fire and life safety systems or equipment. + Documents flow test of campus fire hydrants and update databases as appropriate. + Provides current flow test data/conducts new flow test as needed for new construction/renovation projects. + Assists construction groups with relevant data. + Inventories new fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler systems, and fire alarm systems. Update databases as appropriate. + Conducts inventory and barcoding of newly installed doors, shutters, curtains, etc. + Conducts inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire doors, fire shutters, overhead rolling fire doors, fire and smoke curtains, etc. + Documents findings for non-compliant systems. + Submits work request for maintenance items beyond the scope of capabilities. + Conducts follow-up re-inspections and documentation. + Assist superiors. + Conducts and documents testing of fire pumps as required. + Respond to and resolve fire alarm and fire sprinkler issues, including nights and weekends. + Assists in completing evacuation drills for campus facilities as needed. + Performs fire and life safety training for campus community as needed. + Maintains and coordinates the evacuation plans for all university buildings. + Troubleshooting of fire alarms and fire sprinklers and where applicable, repair of those fire protection systems. + Investigates fire incidents as needed. + Completes departmental inspections as directed and required. + Assists with the general inspections and audits of campus projects. + Assists the Groundwater Operator in operating and maintaining the University's water system. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: + Education: High School degree. + Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two years of related experience. Basic knowledge and understanding of fire system inspections and repairs. Understanding/reading building prints. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Interpersonal and communication skills. Planning and organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Strong attention to detail. + Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding. Ability to adapt and learn quickly, work autonomously, approach tasks with a sense of urgency, and address any issues that arise day or night. + Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid Driver’s license. + Physical Requirements: Be able to climb ladders. + Other Requirements: PREFERRED EDUCATION/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE: Preferred Education: Associates degree and or Bachelor’s degree in fire science, engineering, or other related field. Preferred Certifications: TCFP Fire Inspector, TCFP Plans Examiner, NFPA CFAITMS. Ability to obtain TCFP Fire Inspector within one year of employment.
