This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA, and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. The Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).

Our Fire Protection Engineering group is seeking a dynamic Fire Protection Engineer with outstanding technical and problem-solving abilities and has interpersonal relationship-building and excellent time-management skills. Responsibilities:

The Fire Protection Engineer will support the Fire Protection Program Manager for all Fire Protection Program related matters.

Under general supervision, incorporates conventional engineering and scientific practices associated with the Navarro-ATL Fire Protection Program. Provides Fire Protection Engineering technical support to the overall organization and mission. Assists with implementation of the Fire Protection Program, performs peer reviews, assists the Hanford Fire Marsal with fire investigations, assists in the resolution of fire system discrepancies/non-compliances, and supports the preparation of exemptions/equivalency/deviation requests. Assures that fire hazards are controlled/mitigated, that life safety is maintained, and that facilities and operations are in compliance with DOE contract requirements, NFPA codes and standards, and other applicable statutory requirements. Supports new and remodel construction activities by reviewing and contributing to project specifications, drawings, and other associated project documents, developing or contributing to fire system acceptance test procedures, assisting with and witnessing fire protection related structures/systems/components post modification testing, and ensuring fire protection equipment procurement is within compliance with DOE and statutory fire protection requirements, standards, and recommended practices. Reviews and approves fire protection system inspection, testing, and maintenance work packages to assure compliance with NFPA and manufacturer recommendation/specifications. Interfaces with the Hanford Fire Marshal (HFM) and, when qualified as a Deputy Fire Marshal (DFM), will function on the behalf of the HFM in performing DFM responsibilities as described in the Hanford Fire Marshal’s Charter. Disseminates fire protection information to management to keep them advised of changes, special problem issues, and/or new requirements related to the Fire Protection Program. Establishes and interprets fire protection policies, codes, standards, requirements, and maintains program procedures applicable to operations, activities, projects, and facilities. Reviews and revises the Fire Hazard Analyses and writes/revises Fire Hazards Evaluations. Assists in requests for exemptions, variances, deviations, or equivalency evaluations from fire protection standards and requirements. Performs fire protection facility assessments to determine compliance with applicable DOE Orders (DOE O 420.1C), and prescribed standards and ensures any deficiencies are maintained in the deficiency tracking system until corrected. Performs comprehensive Fire Protection Program self-assessments. Attends training courses to maintain proficiency in the mandatory fire protection standards of the program. Assists with the fire protection overview of subcontractor activities and facilities. Provides technical assistance to DOE.
