Fire & Security Project Engineer

Inframark is looking for a Fire & Security Project Engineer in Tomball TX.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

This candidiate will fill the combined roles of superintendent, site supervisor, and project engineer for Fire & Security (F&S) projects.

They will use computer, electrical, mechanical, systems, and related engineering principals to provide a holistic design of fire & security (F&S) systems for simultaneous projects spanning multiple customers. Design will include, but not be limited, to the following subsystems/aspects of an F&S project:  fire alarm and other low voltage systems including access control, CCTV, mass notification, intercom, and data among other life safety and security systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales, Marketing and Proposal Support

Provides technical support to Sales and Marketing.Chairs the technical review team to review proposals and acts as the final technical approver of outgoing proposals.

Project Support

Lead technical authority that is the accountable and responsible person for all things engineering and technical on fire and security projects supporting the project manager in the accurate and timely execution of projectsInterprets contract documents to determine appropriate design and installation requirements and appropriate bills of materials.Reviews and understands site conditions to facilitate engineering drawing development and modifications.Provides engineering/design for fire alarm systems and red line markups for CAD to generate complete installation drawings.Coordinates drafting efforts to generate required engineering drawings. Approve and certify fire alarm system designs (as applicable).Submit documentation and work closely with the proper authorities for design approvals and permitting.Generates submittals, responds to return comments, and provides updates.Leads technical lessons learned discussions.Conducts site visits in a supervisory role.  Develops a relationship with Procurement and vendors to obtain and review quotes as part of the hardware selection process.Provides clear and accurate information regarding hardware to be ordered; considers substitutions or alternates due to design improvement, unavailability, lead time, or cost. Receives, interprets, and incorporates third-party designs, hardware, and systems into Inframark solutions.

Field Preparation and Support

Installs, services, and troubleshoots a variety of life safety systems.Performs post-installation support such as training and warranty work at customer sites.Performs validations, diagnostics, repairs, upgrades, and other activities per job specifications.

Camera & Security Subsystem Design

Selects camera and security system hardware and software based on project specifications.Makes recommendations to improve on project specifications, as applicable.

Documentation

Upon completion of startup activities, supervises the creation as-installed documentation.Performs quality control (QC) of project documentation. Leads efforts to develop Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.Makes minor AutoCAD modifications to engineering drawings when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or 2-year technical degree in a related discipline, or equivalent combination of vocational training and work experience with fire & security applications.B.S. degree in engineering (preferred but not required). Texas fire alarm license:  APS, FAL or RAS.Texas security license.NICET certified (preferred but not required).Experience with access control, CCTV, mass notification, intercom, and data among other life safety and security systems.Experience with field instrumentation, hardware, control panels. Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office.Familiarization and basic proficiency with AutoCAD.5+ years field service and installation experience working with commercial fire alarm and other low voltage systems including burglary, access control, CCTV, mass notification, intercom and data, among other security and life safety systems.

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, OR ABILITIES

Able to demonstrate leadership as a technical lead.Able to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and submittal specifications.Able to read and interpret systems programs/software and associated product manuals. Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Knowledge of Silent Knight fire alarm systems. Experience using an MEWP (scissor or single-man lift).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 Ability to communicate (written, verbal) effectively with customers, management, and co-workers.Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication. Sitting for extended periods. Hearing and vision within normal range.Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, printers, scanners, and copiers.No heavy lifting is expected, although occasionally materials must be transported to site.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job is performed at the A&I Central Region Tomball office with routine travel to customer sites.

TRAVEL

Estimated at 40% travel primarily, but not limited to, within the Greater Houston area.
