Job SummaryBattelle’s National Security Business Line is seeking a Fire Engineering Technician Specialist to assist the technical team in the execution of Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts in Fire and Emergency Services. This position supports the Air Force Civil Engineer Center and is located on-site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL. The successful candidate will work closely with test engineers to configure and execute test operations and support for indoor and outdoor research efforts. RDTE & efforts include new firefighting agents and fire suppression agents, agent dispersal techniques, equipment, and extinguishment systems in various military settings (hangars, vehicles, etc). The Technician Specialist aids Test Engineers to prepare for, stage equipment, execute tests, collect data, and restore test environment after tests are complete. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities Assist with evaluating new technologies for fire firefighting and fire suppression systemsParticipate in research into improving the efficiency and effectiveness of fire fighting vehicles, equipment, and agentsPerforms routine specific analysis of data, including field testingFollows established, standardized procedures and records data from experimentationAssists with routine administrative and operational duties, special projects and other duties as assignedPerforms RDT&E support tasks under supervision of, or from detailed procedures developed by, engineering staff. Includes assembling required test articles; setting up and configuring test equipment, systems, test articles, software, and the test environment for test; performing tests and assisting with engineering evaluation or analysis; summarizing results and issues encountered; and returning test space, articles, and systems to pre-test state once tests are complete.Key Qualifications Associates degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or equivalent) plus 3 years’ experience in a test and evaluation environment >1 year fire protection experienceMust have experience that demonstrates solving complex technical problemsCandidate must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles is preferredWorking knowledge of engineering fabrication of equipment is preferredAbility to work independently and in a team environmentDemonstrated ability to operate basic equipment and follow standard proceduresExperience in operation and/or evaluation of firefighting equipment and/or experience in firefighting is preferredBasic knowledge of regulations and standards pertaining to firefighting is desiredProficiency with MS Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word).
