Position Information Position Information Position Availability: Position Title: First-Year Student Coordinator Requisition Number: 0406073555 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: CA/Student Success Responsibilities: First-Year Student Coordinators (FYSCs) are student leaders who possess a strong desire to work with new students and their supporters during Orientation Programs. FYSCs contribute to the University’s New Student Orientations through their leadership in the following areas: peer training and supervision, customer service excellence, and digital communications. The FYSC will be chosen based on the completion of the following prerequisite(s):

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Be employed with the Student Leadership & Involvement-Transition Experiences (SLI-TE) office from January 2025 to June 30, 2025, reporting directly to the Assistant Director of First-Year & Transition Experiences (AD) Assist with the creation and implementation of events, presentations, and schedules for all staff training Support a variety of in-person and virtual events for new students before orientation, during orientation, and throughout welcome week. Serve as a point person, peer mentor, and co-supervisor for orientation team members Assist in the recruitment, interview, and selection process of incoming OLs Coordinate end-of-year celebration for OL staff Assist in developing and implementing Orientation social media campaigns, engagement activities, and communication plans Attend bi-weekly staff meetings to check-in with the AD and report on projects Other duties as assigned
SALARY RANGE
Hourly rate of $17/ hour (paid up to $5,250) throughout the position. This is a spring, summer, and fall position. Housing is provided during the summer months only. See the timeline below for details, timeline is subject to change.*
WORK MODE
On-Campus Position: Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.
Minimum Qualifications: Must have been employed as a previous Orientation Leader/Captain during August 2024 Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above Be in good academic and conduct standing with The New School Declared as a full-time student at TNS effective Spring 2025 to Fall 2025. A passion for supporting students transitioning into campus life and orientation at-large Present themselves as positive role models Be reliable, responsible, confident, and adaptable Be able to work as a team player and motivate co-workers Strong organizational skills and ability to help in overall coordination of the Orientation Leader (OL) program and training Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of individuals Preferred Qualifications: Have a working knowledge of the different aspects of the university in order to assist and serve as effective liaisons between students and other members of the TNS community Demonstrate adaptability in high-stress situations and be able to work under pressure Demonstrate a professional attitude, effective communication skills, ability to solve problems, accept constructive feedback, and be engaged in assisting new students Be committed to individual personal and academic growth by practicing effective time management Job Family: Student Services Department Posting Date: 11/08/2024 Closing Date: 12/09/2024 Open Until Filled No Supplemental Questions
