Summary This position is a FISH AND WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST, GS- 0401-13 working in Edison, NJ for the R9-Division of Restoration and Recovery. Responsibilities As a FISH AND WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Facilitate and provide technical review, advice, and coordination with EPA on biological aspects related to site contaminant investigations and cleanup activities. Maintain awareness of FWS and EPA field capabilities and contaminant field assessments and provide technical assistance to FWS and EPA personnel to maintain a working knowledge of field capabilities and expertise. Advise the EPA and FWS on required actions relating to technical support issues and National policy. Plan and conduct on-site ecological investigations on a wide variety of complex and diverse actual or suspected contaminant sites. Assist the FWS and EPA in developing long-range plans to facilitate future coordination between EPA and FWS in environmental response and the protection of natural resources. Provide technical support for environmental compliance for EPA actions, as they relate to various resource management statutes including, but not limited to: the Fish and Wildlife Act of 1956, the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, National Wildlife Refuge System Administration Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Communicate technical information and decisions between EPA and FWS among all participating FWS and EPA personnel. Design and implement procedures to facilitate consolidated communication input to EPA and FWS managers. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Only experience and education obtained by 10/22/2024 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification. Basic Requirement: Possess a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Possess a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualification [GS-13] Possess at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes: 1) Applying extensive expertise in environmental contaminants fate and effects; 2) designing, implementing, overseeing, and evaluating field sampling and monitoring studies that investigate potential impacts from contaminants in a variety of habitats and environmental conditions; 3) Developing cleanup and restoration alternatives that are protective of the environment; 4) Evaluating and interpreting data from field investigations or reports; and 5) Applying Federal regulations (including, but not limited to, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Endangered Species Act (ESA)) and policies to promote natural resource conservation and protection. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
